Why is my chevy running hot?!?

I got a 93 caprice and i cant figure out why it is running hot. It is full of aintifreeze so what could be the problem?

Plugged catalytic converter, bad thermostat, other exhaust restriction, coolant flow restriction (collapsed hose, plugged radiator etc), loose drive belt, bad fan clutch or electric fan, any number of reasons, really.

You can determine an exhaust restriction by placing a vacuum gauge on the engine and starting it. A restriction in the exhaust will show by a normal reading that tapers off to a very low vacuum reading.

How serious is it? If you have money to burn and time to waste, it's not serious at all. However, if you want your engine to live, and not strand you in the middle of BFE, it's very serious.

I've been to BFE, not a pretty place after dark that's 4 sure. If the car quits on you and it smells like an overheated waffle iron, get your cell phone out and call a wrecker.

Some of the things silicon came up with are easy to diagnose. If you're not that car saavy, have a pro look at it.

I would check the thermostat first...thats the most simple problem that it could be....

does it get hot as soon as you start driving...i had similar problem and it turned out to be the thermostat...i order mines off the impalass website...takes about 10-20 minutes to install..

You can just go to ANY local auto parts store and get one, small block chevy thermostats are a very common part for parts stores to stock.
