Intake Modifications ?

I have owned a Ford F150 for five years (been a member of several online groups and forums) and now I just bought my XJ after wanting one for quite some time. After buying it and reading for hours on diffrent forums I have noticed that these things run very hot.
Well, to the question, etc. I noticed the box that the XJ air filter is in opens up so that a lot of hot air can enter. On the F-150s the stock air box exits through the fender into a much cooler spot. I actually have a K&N FIPK on it and the one negative thing is that now the filter is wide open inside the engine which causes it to suck hotter air than stock and doesnt help as much as it is suppose to. A lot of people make mods to this so they exit the fender like a stock box and helps these kits tremendously.
TO THE POINT NOW, LOL: Has anyone seen any intake air box mods that rout the box to the fender or any other spots? To me this seems like it would be a great mod and would probably help with mpg and hp.

How about a snorkle? There is the kind that you buy and the kind that people make that route back to the intake under the windshield.

Here's a link that shows several options for snorkels and placement of air intake from other places along with several other cheap xj mods you can do.

If you scroll about 3/4 of the way down it shows the one that alohabra was talking about going through the firewall into the area under the windshield.

I really like this mod, but the only worry I have is that rain can enter through the vents under the windshield and possibly enter the intake. this may not be a problem at all due to evaporation, etc. but i would like to know for sure before i do it.

I doubt that water would be a problem with that design. Yes water does enter that area but with the way the hose has to go up and then down to the air box if any water made it over the first rise in the hose it would end up at the bottom of the air box and very doubtful any would get into the intake manifold. Plus for water to even get into the hose that whole compartment under the wipers would have to be completely full of water and I haven't ever seen that happen because of the draining design of that area.

Yeah, after looking and thinking about it for a little while I realized it would be nearly impossible for water to get in.
Think I will try this one soon.
