Can I spray this???

I just got a can of TS-50 to paint a WRX. Is it OK to spray duplicolor clear lacquer over it???

I think the Duplicolor paint is quite a bit hotter, and will eat the Tamiya paint. Duplicolor is an automotive acrylic lacquer, Tamiya is a hobby synthetic lacquer. Maybe someone has tried this or you should experiment on a spare body and report on it.:)

You can spray enamel over lacquer but not vise versa.:)

I've used Dupli-Color on Tamiya Spray, and it didn't cause any problem, but DC is lacquer, so I'm certain it will dissolve any kind of paint if applied too heavily. Just follow the common practice of clear coating, and start from light mist for the first three layers or so with an interval of at least one day between each coat.
And, lacquer and enamel don't mix; that's true. So, enamel can be painted over lacquer. Also, water base acrylic won't damage either enamel or lacquer base acrylics.

Wal-Mart has its own brand of enamel spray paints that for some odd reason dont' seem to follow the typical laws of spray paints. Give your model a typical primer, and then let it dry for an hour or so. Doesn't really matter the period, just be sure the primer has hardened. Then rig it up on your spray rig, and then hold the can back about a foot and give it a light mist. On the second coat, stay back a foot still, but cover the model. Then on the final coat you can pretty much hold the can 3" from the body and spray it on thick. It doesn't seem to be as thick as "model only spray paints", and you can get a glossy, VERY MINIMAL orange peel surface when using this method correctly. The only problem might be that the paint doesn't work too well when its sanded or rubbed with compound, BUT a good automotive caranuba wax will give it a spectacular shine. For only .99c to 1.39c a can, and at 3-4x the size of model spray paints, its not too bad. I'll try to get some HQ pics of my porsche carrera to prove this method. :D :D :D :D

How long do I wait before I can spray another coat of clear on?

There is some orange peel on the finish. Should I spray another coat of clear and then compound or do I need to sand the finish and then spray another coat of clear?

If you want it really nice I would sand it down and apply another coat then compound. There will be less chance of compounding through the clear coat and it will look better.
