1998 Sentra axle replacement strut problem

I had both front axles replaced and now the driver side strut seems very weak. I can take one hand and push down on the car a few times and it bounces all over the place and continues to bounce when I stop pushing. The other 3 stuts are very hard to push down.

Also the car makes a bumping sound on that side of the car when going over rough spots in the road.

Could the mechanic have done something to that strut when replacing the axles?
