bearing noise or transfer case issue?

I have a 2005 4x4 V6 , with a noise in the backend that sounds like a wheel bearing. i have taken it to a garage who said its not the bearings, its just the tires.

Does this make sense? read a previous post about a transfer case making a bearing noise, and just wondering if that could be my problem.

When using the system check on the dash it says the 4x4 is fine.

Is there anyway to test if the 4x4 is working ok, or to narrow down the source of my noise?

Did you look at the tires? Is the inside tread choppy since this is a common issue?

Jack it up with all four tires off the ground and run it.
Best way is on a lift, but I had to use four jack stands.
Is it four wheel drive?
