need assistance

hello peeps, im a newbie on here and been into modelling since i was 9 (now 25).
ive been searching forums and articals on the net about scratch building a 1/10 scale car, the only problem i will have is the body of the car,
the thing is could i not use the body of a 1/10 rc car and maybe mold a hard plastic shell instead of the lexan rc body, is this possible or am i biting off more than i can chew?? ive got no issues with all the parts i will have to build im jsut worried about the body shell of the car its self,
any help would be good,
