2000 GMC Sanoma Trany Problem?

Two problmes:
1) Over the last two weeks, twice after driving for about 70 miles into the mountains, the truck looses power, pretty much the same place on the road. It's an automatic V6. It doesn't die it just becomes gutless. You try to accellerate and the tack just revs between 3 to 4 gand and is boggy. I really have to baby it to get it above 50 mph and there's no extra power at all. I've tried driving just in regular gear and in OD. OD seems a bit better but not by much. This is driving into the mountains. When coming down from the mountains, 1 or 2 days later, it's fine. I have a steep hill to get over at the end of the trip coming back home. The truck is fine each time. Holds steady at 65 -70 mph. Trany oil level is fine.
Second problem:
I saw an old post on fuel gages acting up. Was there any fix for this? Over the last 4 weeks, start the truck, it's parked in the drive at a slight incline. The gage moves back and forth pretty rapidly between full and empty. Each time this has happened it's had a full or 3/4 tank. Today while coming to a stop the fuel guage went to empty and the low fuel light came on. I know it has a full tank since I just filled it up.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! kcm

First thing make sure the engine is running good.
A transmission will not work right unless engine is running right.
Is the transmission slipping?
A good transmission capable scanner will read out any slippage or transmission problems.
Any codes or check engine lights.
How many miles on it?
What engine and transmission?
When was you last tune up?
Fuel filter/ Fuel pressure?
Hows is the cat?
Engine vacuum readings at idle and at 2K?

Took the truck in and the fuel pump was bad. No error codes for the trany thankfully. We'll see how it does going up this weekend. So far both issues seem to be fixed, but at a price. :frown: Thanks for your help! kcm
