inner tie rod removal

im trying to replace the inner tie rod of a rack and pinion style steering on a 2000 mystique. the standard inner tie rod removal tool does not work as it seems that the inner tie rod knuckle is completely circular with no notches to fit the tool. any suggestions/instructions for removal?
