Question:shifter Wo

I HAVE A 1998 DODGE RAM 4X4. I TRIED TO PUT IT IN PARK BUT THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK. THE SHIFTER WILL MOVE FREELY BETWEEN DRIVE AND PARK. THE TRUCK WILL NOT START FOR ME AND AT FIRST I COULD NOT GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WITHOUT HOLDING THE SHIFTER TIGHTLY INTO PARK. I HAVE HAD THE LINKAGE CHECKED AND THEY SAID IT WAS OK. WHAT COULD THE PROBLEM BE? :frown:

2nd band strut could have fallen out. This can keep the truck from going into park. You can start it in "N" also. Take it to a trans shop and see if you have 2nd gear.
