Where is the power?

I own a 1979 2 door caprice classic coupe with a 305. I have recently had the engine rebuilt and have had a quadrajet 4 barrel installed. I have a lot of power lost some where and i think it maybe my carb. on a dead stop and then punch the gas almost nothing happens. the engine sounds as if it is flooding. upon driving and punching the gas to the passing gear you can hear the RPM's kick up but feels as if the car should be accelerating alot faster. any ideas would be GREAT!!!!

Pretty general question, timing is an issue of course, is it set right for this engine, is the carb jetted and set up properly, as well as is it the the carb for your engine, these are the preliminary issues here.

well in the rebuild i put in a bigger cam, and a 350 intake manifold.timing is set correctly to the factory recommendation. would i need to set it differently just from the minor adjustments i have made to the engine itself? at one point i found that the engine would die on me constantly when in passing gear for to long, I found that a vacuum hose was not in the correct place on the carburetor. after switching the hose i found that it solved that problem. Could other misplaced hoses cause this problem? and is there any way to get a diagram of the correct setting for the hoses?
