Evo VIII vs. Corvette

1st the Viper and now this. Just coincidence really. I'm not out there hunting for American exotics but I am seriously about to crash out hard so I'll make this brief. I'm in the #3 lane minding my own business when a Corvette (not the newest style, but the one before it) with a really loud exhaust comes down the fast lane doing at least 100mph. I punched it and in about 1/4 mile or so was right next to him. He looked sorta shocked when he saw somebody pacing him so he quickly let of the gas, looked at me and then pointed ahead to say let's go. All I could see of his passenger was a big shit eating grin. Looked like a couple dorks if I had to describe these guys. He punched it (we were doing maybe 75mph or 80mph at the time) and I followed. Initially he had about 3 cars on me because he went first but I could tell pretty quickly, despite the awesome sound of that V8, that I was driving the more powerfull car. By 140mph I said forget about it though with about a car length lead. He kept going...for what reason I'll never know...but he did. Human nature says you'll wanna at least chat with the winner following an adrenaline rush like that. Not these guys though. It's the first time I've taken the car that fast on the new suspension otherwise I may have followed. Nevertheless that's all I got. Sleepy time. Gnight.

what kind of power you making?Dyno numbers are confusing without a frame of reference. If I said the car put down about 320whp/305wtq it wouldn't leave much of an impact unless I told you that a stock IX does about 210-220whp on the same dyno and the car in the picture below put down 325whp about an hour before I was tuned. The car has all the bolt-ons, cams, IX turbo and is tuned for 100 octane.

Cripes man 140! Sounds like a rush. You sure do have a sweet machine there. What have you topped 'er out at?

The car was pretty much stock when I did that though. I don't know what the theoretical top speed would be right now, but it had a lot more left at 140mph. It was me, not the car, that chickened out. :iceslolan

Another really good question. The tires are Falken Azeni 615-RT in 255/40/17. I'm not sure on the speed rating, although a lot of people track these tires. I'll have to check that.

I'm not doubting you, but how does a Lamborghini Murcielago with 580bhp, only put down 325whp on a dyno? I've heard of drivetrain loss, but lossing 44% (255hp) is a bit much, I mean there's no way a 3600lb car can run low 12 second 1/4 mile times with 120+ traps with only 325whp. I just can't see it happening. Not to mention there's no way a car only putting out 325whp can hit 205mph I don't care how great the aerodynamics are.
I think there's something up with that dyno. Either it's broke, or they messed with it while the Murcielago was on it and put back to default settings when your car got on. I don't see how your putting down almost similar power to the Lambo.

http://smiliesftw.com/x/shrug.gif (http://smiliesftw.com)No worries at all. Those are all good points. I've never dragged the car but my tuner (Andy @ Speed Element) has a customer with an VIII who put down 295whp and got into the 11's at ATCO in Sacramento. I think it's just an uber conservative dyno. I'll be down there on Thursday and I'll be sure to ask him to clarify the exact numbers the Lambo put down. It was a big deal a few months back when their new dyno arrived but maybe my memory is beginning to fail me. In the meantime I found these threads on the local NorCal boards that show what a heartbreaker the Speed Element dyno is...
275whp = 12.3@109mph (http://www.norcalevo.net/forum/index.php/topic,17031.0.html)
292 whp = 11.9@114 mph. (http://www.norcalevo.net/forum/index.php/topic,15843.0.html)
343whp = [email protected] w/1.65 60ft (http://www.norcalevo.net/forum/index.php/topic,18698.0.html)
476whp = 10.86@123mph (http://www.norcalevo.net/forum/index.php/topic,18164.15.html)
And in this thread my tuner was asked about his conservative dyno and then rolls of some of his tunes, the corresponding whp and then the 1/4 times they saw (275whp = 12.3@110mph, 355whp = 11.57@119mph, etc)... (http://www.norcalevo.net/forum/index.php/topic,17468.0.html)
EDIT: I found the dynoslip for that same Lambo, except it was at EIP down in San Jose. Reads the same as the Speed Element dyno (I was tuned there last fall before Speed Element's new dyno had arrived) but...yeah...OK...I'll keep digging for the right dyno slip.

With an intake and exhaust 250 powerstroke, I doubt you hear alot of anything, lol. Most likely weren't Evos, just badged up regular lancers, or maybe they just weren't in the mood to get on it.
And while were comparing top speeds: fastes I've physically driven behind the wheel of a car was 185. Fastest I've been in a car with someone else driving, it was pushing somewhere north of 200 (Intake, headers, exhaust, software, maybe gearing on an E60 M5).

As I looked at the numbers it began bugging me a little too so I started a thread on the NorCal boards asking for clarification. It turns out it was actually a Gallardo that did 325whp before my tune. The Murcielago in the picture actually put down 435whp! My apologies guys. I feel silly now. I think there have been 2 or 3 threads where I used that Murcielago as a frame of reference. Now I have to find a pic of that Gallardo. :runaround:

i'll give you an example of a car that should never exceed 110 on stock parts.
a 1995 dodge neon auto. at 118(its limiter) the tranny sounds like it's going to litteraly blow apart and send shreads of metal thru every part of the car. it is fun tho.
i've been a passenger in a 911 4s at 110, and i've done 120 in my stealth. i have severe limitation, no rouds near me other than rt80 go strait for very long
