Thoughts about Tornado Device?

I've heard about it and finnaly saw it on T.V. demonstrated by tv magic if its true or not. Anyway if it really saves on gas then I'm all for this. Any negatives to this device? Please someone give me a technical reply and not a 1 line opinion.

Everyone says it doesn't work and it's crap, but I have never heard an opinion from someone that has actually used it besides on tv. So I gaurantee that most people will dog it and say it doesn't work, but don't listen to them. :)

i am with kicker on this one. i always hear people talk aobut how bad they are but they dont actually own it, they just heard it form a guy who heard it from another guy who heard it from another guy that owns one. but i never heard anyone opinion taht actually had one.
it sounds like it would work because causing a better mixing or atomizing or whatever it does with gas would help it burn more efficient, so it looks like it works

its supposed to, but i fail to see how something so simple could provide that much hp. The "Tornado" is some aluminum or tin
circular intake device with angled fins that is placed in the air intake
tube. It's supposed to make the passing air swirl, to better mix with
the fuel for more power and efficiency. Iv'e heard nothing remarkable about this product if it does help its unoticeable to anyone I have talked to about it. But then again (I have never owned one) I'm just going from what other's have said. And the research I have done, which is minimal.

i'm not gonna choose a side here b/c like they said don't knock it until youve tried it, and since im not going to try it. (neutral)

I dunno man I have seen some pretty big horse power gain from intake filters on V8's and Supra's and Rx-7's. The cars they do show are V8's. Again what they show on the commercial are real dyno's. I am not saying that we will gain that much from our cars but every little bit helps.

an intake filter dosen't give a big boost in hp but it gives some, this tornado device. (i have heard) does not give a noticeable hp gain it may improve on gas milage a bit? all and all I don't know. like I said (nuetral)

How does a piece of metal in the intake help increase HP? And if you say it swirls the air, does that even matter once it makes a 90 degree turn down the intake manifold??? Regardless of whether I own one or not, I'm calling BS on this product.

I believe that the reason no one that has owned it has spoken up is because it actually doesn't work. I mean, let's be honest, if it were possible to get 20HP to the tires and gave us a 10% increase in MPG for only $69.95, then everyone that ever thought of owning a car would have one. I've never seen one, never owned one, and neither have any of my friends. If nobody has them then how good can they be?

theres this crap called dura-lube another "as seen on tv product"
anyways these people had a motor running with the valve cover off and were throwing loads of dirt into it..the motor just would'nt stop running..
so if you get this tornado make sure you pick up some dura-lube so if ur tornado sucks in some dirt you can rest-assure that ur motor won't stop..
if you ever end up getting a dent or ding you can get the "ding-king" to pull it out and then finish it off with some color matched wax;)
i know that this has nothing to do with this thread but,
it's all crap in my opinion..

Go buy the stupid thing. You have posted this on a couple of boards and 1 person who used it and didn't know what to think. And then there are all the countless others who have negatives to say about it.
Just go buy the stupid thing and get it over with. It looks like you're set on buying it anyway. Just don't come back and whine.

It's called using common sense and knowing how an engine works. You don't have to use a product to know it's not going to work:rolleyes:

All of you relize that you are mearly guessing going off the popular belief. There are alot of followers to many popular beliefs like Religion and is it true or not is the question that we cant answer nor does common sence have any involvement in the matter.
I was hopping to get some feedback from someone who actually has used it and dynoed it on their Civic. Seeing how everyone here is all into "Noticable Fast Gains" then this is the wrong place to ask about this device. Yea the K&N filter doesn't give notacible Hp diffrence but, it sure blocks more particles more so then the stock filter and it last alot longer. I'm sure alot of people here would rather use steroids instead of working out regularly since using steroids would be a "Fast" way to gain muscle but, in fact it does nothing if you don't work out or put your body into fatigue.
Looks like my only option is to actually try the product out myself since this was a lost cause to ask in here. :grey:

TheDarkInfluence,
No one here has mentioned anything about steroids or religion. Hell, we haven't even said that we are looking for a "noticable fast gain". We are simply saying that we feel that there is a better way to spend $70 on our car (that's money that we can put toward a new filter or intake :D ). As I said earlier, IF it did actually add 20 HP THEN we would buy it, and so would alot of other people, but it obviously doesn't because no one has it. Everyone is looking for an edge in order to extract the last little bit of HP from their car, but we're not wanting to throw their hard earned money down the crapper. Most of the serious tuners I know are willing to spend a couple of hundred dollars just for 5 or 6 HP to the wheels. Is 5 or 6 HP a "noticable fast gain"? NO.
It has become obvious to me that you either have one of these devices or you're waiting for yours to be delivered. Seeing as how you are either planning on purchasing on or have already, isn't it you that is looking for the cheap and easy "steriod" fix for your HP problem? I would rather rebuild my engine using JDM Type-R parts and end up spending more money, than to get some gimmick that has the potential to ruin my engine when it self destructs. But, go right ahead and get your precious "Tornado", spend the $70 on a "NOTICABLE FAST GAIN" for you ride. Meanwhile, just remember that when you need a ride to the shop to pick up your car after you destoyed your engine when a fin went through the intake, that you'll be riding in the car of someone that spent the time and the effort to really "work out their engine" and didn't use the "steriods" like you did.
Funny isn't it?

And maybe it really does add some HP, do you know? Maybe everyone just thinks it's crap so that's why they don't have it. And 5 to 6 HP is a very noticeable gain, anyone that is actually into tuning knows that it is and they can definately feel it. Why do you think people even take out their backseat when racing, that won't even make 1/2 a HP difference, but yet it still makes their car faster. So 5 to 6 HP is definately a noticeable fast gain!

I know that when an engine is maxed out and/or when you are just begining to work on the car that 5 or 6 HP is a good increase. All I'm saying is that if ANY product for under $70 could give +20 HP and +10% MPG, then these and other forum boards would be lit up with people exclaiming the virtues of this innovative system. I don't see anybody doing that. I'm sure that someone has purchased these things, if they work so well then why aren't they bragging about how they "got in" before everyone else? If these things are so great, then were is the proof? Yes the ads show dyno charts, but remember that the Tobacco companies also tried saying that smoking wasn't bad for you. I know that that's a weird comparison, but the truth is that companies tweak number's and facts to meet their ads.
Another thing, if these wonderful creations work so well, and are able to boost HP and MPG, then why aren't the car manufactures using them?

Companies aren't going to include a better intake or exaust or better suspension etc etc... cause its not cost efficent for the average consumer paying for this type of car in it's class. All of that is considered modded material after you purchace the vehicle unless you pay high price for a car which would have it included already or if its an option when purchacing the caras new. If you buy a better car to start with like a BMW, Mustang etc etc then you'll get more features then a stock low end economy car but, the car itself will be more money at sticker price even without adding options cause the car itself comes with better parts in more areas. If companies included all this then the car wouldn't be affordable to the average person off the street so they want to make it cost efficent as possible.
The reason why your not going to see people talking about this product is because 1. It's still new and 2. They "Think" and do not know. It all comes down to someone saying what they think and because they don't know then its just their opinion they are boasting in the forum.
Like I said I'm going to buy the product having the local auto store order it so I don't have to pay for shipping/handling charges just to get the facts straight instead of reading random comments from users that have no experience with the product themselves but, heard rumors and only follow the popular belief that's why they don't care to investigate for themselves. Oh I'm sure it probably doesn't do anything at all but, you will never know untill you try. At least I will have more proof if it works or not rather then all of the random opinions clogging this forum about this device.
You all have been very helpfull.

What you think Dyno's Lie? There was an Import Tuner Issue where they had a 3rd GEN RX-7 and they added a cone filter on the intake and added 30 horses to the wheels.

JrgCivic you say you tried it but, does that mean your not currently using it?

yeah i still have it in my car. Made my car louder and i could hear the intake suckin up more air. Like you said juss apay try and return if you don't like. I am still in my 30 days

Id really like to see a dyno on a D series without any mods. Run it stick the first time then add the tornado and see what you get. If its all the hype then it would show. If anyone has any articles with a dyno on a small civic or the same class please post the results or the page, thanks.

I thought it was just supposed to create a better air fuel mixture not act as a forced induction system? Seeing as there is no way it could force more air into the intake being that it is and always will be a cheese shredder looking piece of metal, that is probably bloking more air from coming in............ I mean holy shit ppl........

Oh man, this could take a while.
"How can you judge a product just because noone you know or yourself has not used it?" -The DarkInfluence
Simple, because we live on planet earth, in a 3 dimensional world were the laws of physics apply.
"All of you relize that you are mearly guessing going off the popular belief. There are alot of followers to many popular beliefs like Religion and is it true or not is the question that we cant answer nor does common sence have any involvement in the matter."
-TheDarkInfluence
Ok, thats a pointless statement that applies in absoluetly NO way to the topic being discussed. I am not guessing off popular belief, I'm going by logical reasoning.
Now for the religion statement, what the hell? please explain to me how this relates in any way at all. Sure, many people believe in religion and there is no way to settle that argument, but that is a philosophical one. There are no set rules for that argument.
We are discussing car parts, that MUST follow the laws of physics and therefore if one understands these laws, they can predict whether or not something will work without trying it. So in conclusion, YES, we can answer this question.
"Companies aren't going to include a better intake or exaust or better suspension etc etc... cause its not cost efficent for the average consumer paying for this type of car in it's class."
Yes they would. If a company could improve their vehicles gas mileage by as much as a tornado says it can for the manufacturing cost of $1(because that is all it costs to manufacture something this simple) then they would do it.
Why? simple, because it would increase sales. If you were selling a product and making a net profit of $1000 from each unit and could sell 100 units a year you would make $100,000 a year.
Wouldn't you lower your per-unit profits by a dollar if it meant you would sell 110 units per year? i think so, seeing as how it would mean your net profit would be $109,890. You see, if honda could increase the civics gas milage more people would buy it, and seeing as how it would only cost a buck or so to manufacture these things it would definitly be worth it.
So yes, it is cost efficient in this case.
"It's still new" -TheDarkInfluence
No it's not. Things like this are never new. Everything this simple has been tried before, many times. And since they aren't standard on every car today, thats proof that they aren't worth it.
And if it was as good as it claims, one of the car companies would have bought the rights so that they could use it exclusivly on their vehicles, therefore giving them a mileage advantage over their competitors.

Ha! That must have been one hell of a strangled RX.
And again, this also applies in no way to this argument. The tornado isn't an air filter, it's a piece of metal. If anything it would decrease air flow velocity throught the intake manifold, therefore DECREASING hp. So therefore, any power gain it did create through better fuel mixture would be negated.
And also, your talking about a high-pressure, Forced Induction engine, of course unrestricting the air intake is going to give power increases. But thats not what the tornado does.

Let's hope so :)
Well, I'm done.

Are we done yet? Just go buy the stupid thing. I can't believe this thread is still active.
If 99% of the people said it's crap wouldn't you think it's all true? I can see if 40% of the people said it's crap.
CLosing thread.
