Extended Warranty Coverage - NOT

I purchased a 4-year extended warranty for my 2002 explorer when I purchased the vehicle in 2005. I have a noise in my drive shaft, and took the car in for repair. After 2 hours and a $200 bill, I was told that to find the problem, they would have to pull the transmission, but they weren't sure the problem was in the transmission, so if it wasn't, my Easy Care extended insurance would not pay for the transmssion removal and replacement, which is about $1000. Is this making sense, that I paid $2000 for my insurance, but they don't pay for finding out what is wrong to begin with?

Wayne, Welcome to AF.

My first thought on this is that you should have a detailed read of the warranty you purchased. See exactly what it says about the repairs that your vehicle may need.

In my experience, dealers try NOT to perform ANY maintenance under warranty, because they don't get paid for it - by the customer OR the manufacturer. I've had to show the warranty to the dealer more than once and threaten a lawsuit to get repairs done for free under warranty.

Once you've read the details, if it's in your favor take it to the dealer and wave it under their nose. Make sure to speak directly to the service manager, make a lot of noise and do it when there's other customers in the office.

If it's not covered, it's not covered. When they sell you the warranty they make it sound like the greatest thing, but there are loopholes....

Good luck, let us know how it comes out.
