hello all I have been working on my Dodge sidewinder truck. I wanted to make it as real as possible so I took some time to look over all the images I have on the truck. I didn't know how they linked the throttle bodies in the engine valve cover til now the pic ihave show the truck when it came out at it's first SEMA Show. So I wanted to make all the linkage out of sheet plastic. but I have so much thin Brass sheet and like the way it makes thing look more real. so I used that and all that sheet plastic. I needed valve covers off a the VTS truck the valve cover that come in this kit are rong for this build soI mad moldes of the right ones and placed them on the engine. First images of the engine at the start then the brass linkage and wireing stuff.

Hey white_R34!

I get my Sidewinder kit soon, so i'll follow ur thread sure!
Nice build till now. Check out the red stripes on the intake manifold
there are 3 stripes instead of only 2.
I'm thinking of build a Sidewinder II, by putting the Viper II engine-tranny-suspension and seats into it.

Back with more, Yes sid I filled in the rib in the middle with testors Contour putty white Then smoothe it out so that there are only two ribbs showing. Then I thought the air in take cover looked to fack so I drilled around the air intake to make the cover look more real. I replaced the throttle link bar with a peace of thick wire and not black plastic.

The water fill tank was to long so I made it shorter so I't wont block the oil fill cap;

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up29.jpg
I had to add a linkage line holder to the setup:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up30.jpg
Time to paint I mixed Fl-Black with Fl-white to make a light gray for the intake plenum.
I mixed Silver and white for the air fillter cover. by the way in the kit the logos on near the sides are not on the real truck, just silver.

OK OK got it to come up I'll post some right now.
Now you know that after I made the dip stick hole I said some thing about the Exaust assembly well I thought that this build should be built like the real one so I decided to chop up the Exaust line and add some thing you all have seen on real Exaust pipes ends or connections these parts are made out of Styreen plastic (evergreen). 015 thick [Plain] then use .025 rod for the bolts. heres the first images of that build the the dip stick thats made from thick racing car wire [black].

now I only used a lite amount of chrome paint to get that black chrome look. They tell mae thats what pipes look like befor you heat them up and the thin look like brass. if this pips where allready chromed I would have made them have that brass and blue burn look sorry and No I don't have decals for that will. "there on there way"
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up45.jpg
this is just the dip stick in place.

I wanted my model to look even more like the real thing so i used some of my Resin Disc Brakes from the reference photos from the artists in HOT ROD Mag. the brakes where big the ones that come in the kit are not right for me so I used my brakes.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up49.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up50.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up51.jpg
I had to make some coil overs to make the look of real suspension. [A lot went in to this]:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up52.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up53.jpg
[THIS IS A TEST SHOT FOR THE RIGHT SIZE] of coil:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up54.jpg
ones I found the right size and type,(on the left the copper coil was to thin, on the right the plastic cotted wire was the right thickness that I needed).
I then used a 3/32 rod of brass (K&S # 5126) to rap the wire around, to acheve the right and same size as the cut off stock.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up55.jpg
I then drilled out some (not to deep holes) for mounting the fack shocks, which are made of rod styrene (.025 # 219 for the small one-3/64" # 221 for the large silinder)this is done for front and back suspensions:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up56.jpg

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up60.jpg
I should have shown the images of the rolling chassis but the up load images part of photobuckets not up yet but i eill post images of that soon. Back the the build The Cool Can I made on for my Mustang II Pro. I used my image as a reference point to make the only 2 I have made. what i used the make the cool can (K&S 3/16x.014 Alum tube) for the large part and (K&S 1/8x.014 Alum tube) stock #5102,5104. And yes the is a oilsump on the engine. I drilled to holes on the can and I'm going to make some small fitting for my breaded lines I don't have the right size of fitting so I'm going to make them my self.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up63.jpg
now I going to paint the rear suspension with the coils on.

OK the Gas tank is to be Red with black straps, the hole "Fram" or Chassis needs to black so I painted the G-tank red and used Liquid Latex as a mask first time ever doint that lol:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up69.jpg

this si the cool can and where it's located on the chassis. Oh and Ll the brack lines and oil,gas lines feed in the the box chassis and I'm going to do all that to.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up71.jpg
this is to show the hight of the cool can under the body.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up73.jpg
now I have more images to show soon as i cant uplode them to photobucket I'll post them there of the true rolling chassis with the wheels and tires on and the mufflers to. Oh Yah for you all how are working on the project or a tuner project the drive shaft is Carbonfiber mmmm the black and gray type this will look good on the under body on most Imports. I'll post the new images soon and thank for looking.
some thing that sliped my mine I for got to tell you, you need to sand off the words on the gas take. Images of that:

http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/52798_dodge_sidewinder_concept/
just click on the images to see them bigger.
Now on to the chassis build. After you paint over you latex mask remove it and just tuch up the black straps with a fine tip brush.

a cool can is usually used to let fluids such as oil, gas, or radiator fluid cool down a little before being introduced back to the motor. Generally the cool can will be made of aluminum and placed in a high wind area so as to get the aluminum to "suck" the heat out of the fluid.

ok I have painted the body I'm wating for the paint to dry so I can flock the interior I'm thinking of using MCG-Model Car Garage Tuner Series Custom Pedals (#2256-2257), than the stock one's in the kit. heres some images of the painted body. when this project is over I going to pop some shots of it at sun rise for some cool images.
First these are the parts layed out for prep:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up83.jpg
thin mounted parts.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/dodge_sidewinder_conceptBuild_up84.jpg
the first two paint coat's I mixed gloss red with gloss yellow to make something like sunrise, thin the next two coats where a heavy amount of amber with 2 drops of orange pearl with a large amount of High Gloss.

Color looks awsome! I don't remember, was the 1:1 metallicy pearl? I've never seen it in person. Your color looks almost identical to the hot wheels one tho. Engine and chassis look great also.

Ok here's some of tha Interior work. After I painted the gauge bezels I had to use decal softening solution to make the decals sit better one of the decal came out bad the one on the far right, then I fixed it with fl-black & fl-white, then I coverd them with TAMIYA Clear Gloss. I don't have steady hand to paint with in thine lines so I used Rustall mixed with FolkArt to make the lines darker (that way I have a guide to start from) and I have just started the flocking hope you like. This is what's in the images.

Yes just like the hole thing(Sidewinder Project) the soda will get the same thing.
Now on to the Interior build.
First you need to get some Hobby Mask it works well.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild5.jpg
Mask of the part that eill be painted Fl-Black, and paint all the interior parts to.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild1.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild2.jpg
take the mask off when dry and get ready to (Flock) your inreior parts.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild3.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild4.jpg
Flock only here on the textured part, these are the things your going to need to do the flocking job. One brush is for painting the glue on and one is for sweeping particals off.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild6.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild7.jpg
I use Elmers white glue it's up to you what you use on your projects, and mix the flocking in your glue so when it drys you will not see the glue under the thin flocking.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild15.jpg
The seat backs are begger than the fronts so you will need to touchup thim up.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild16.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderInteriorBuild17.jpg
Im going to need to move the Gass pedal over. Ididn't use the MCG pedals they did no give me the look I was looking for.
Next the Soda can pack for the interior. (Kyuuketsuki)
Yes the Color seams to be Dark Blue. I E mailed some one that has see the real truck and she said that the interior real is black (as she tells me if the light hits you Black lether just right it will look gray some times blue depends on the light source and type of light (natural light or artificial light) the lather in my Honda Accord looks Dark Gray but its black.
I like some of my model to look as real as it can.

(I don't like flocking, not specially yours, truly I don't like any scale-flocking , it always reminds me to TeddyBears :) but this is my own problem...)

Heres somthing you all who don't open your doors, to make your door and trunk, hood line look more real fill them in in black by using Black wash. for all of you who have a Rustall kit use No. 2 black and some Fabric paint called FolkArt to make the wash darker this is just the same thing I used on the door panels.
First without any filled in lines. Then with the lines filled in.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SidewinderBodywork1.jpg

This will help you make your model stand out more and if you do it right on some types of models It makes your doors look like they will open up.
About the (Soda cans) I did this on my bed so the back ground is Red sorry for that, it makes the aluminum look like brass it's not just aluminum. See I ran out of styrene tubbing and all I had in theat size was aluminum tubbing you still can use styrene it's better and the work go's by faster. first Tube type & size:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/Tubsize2.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/Tubsize1.jpg
These are things your going to need to do this:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/MakingSodaCans1011.jpg
Now ones you have measured the size of tubbing, make a cut line use your pipe cutter(do this 6 times) for a full pack.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/MakingSodaCans1012.jpg
sand off the edges some times there sharp.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/MakingSodaCans1013.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/MakingSodaCans1014.jpg
now that you have both sides sanded off and have a full 6 pack paint the can holder Fl-White (I made one more can to show you tow diffent styles of can Co.s:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/MakingSodaCans1015.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/MakingSodaCans1016.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/Making%20Soda%20Cans/MakingSodaCans1017.jpg
For the straw I used DM Ing. wire
Now fill in the tubbing with what ever type of fill you want from Testors to Tamiya it's up to you. I'll be back to post the painted images on the can later to day.

OK no one wants to post so I have to just add to this thread.

Tell me what you think on this one, now I'll put up some cola can for some of you who mite want to make some for your selves.

The next images are of the me making fake Carbon Decals for the drive shaft and making pullys and belts for the engine. I'm going to rap this thing up soon.
First I found the images of Carbon Fiber I need for the decals and cut out all the images and tapped them together then, I Made a copy of all the tapped images on to Testors decal paper and then sprayed them with the bonder and let dry over night. Placed the new Decal on the Drive shaft and put Tamiya Clear and let Dry. To make the decal darker i used tamiya Smoke clear.

I know I know why didn't I use the ones from Scale Motor Sports well I wanted to but the Company has moved and is not up and running well yet so I need to go on with this project. Well now I know that the hole thing (the Decal stuff) Works so I can make other stuff with it.
NOW for more Engine work. First I made some A/N Fittings for the Oil cool can and oil sump pump when I made the Soda can how to for Kyuuketsuki. Now I need to put pullys on the engine I lost the kit ones I'm glad I did (lost them) that is the one I made up from old parts work out well tell me what you think.

If you keep leaving half full cans laying around some things is going to go rong (It did)
I went to lunch and came back and found this-

!!!!!!MAN!!!!!WHAT!!!!!THE!!!!!@#&&!!!!! Do you know how much that Engine cost now, I'm going to have to rip the block down and start all over MAN!!!!!
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images20.jpg

All of that was just for fun. To make the Coca spell I mixed Tamiya Clear Red & Smoky, a little more Smoke than Red ok.
Next I going to have to make a Radiator yep I lost that one to. "LOL" Good thing that, I know how to make stuff. I'm going to use some fans' from ethere a Corvette or Camaro. I want that two fan look on the out side or the front of the radistor. I'll be using Brass Mesh, your going to like this one. (Let me know what you thing so far on my work).

(Kyuuketsuki)-how did you make the 6 pack can holder? White_r34-(the can holder come from Detail Master you can order DM stuff from Hiroboy It's in a kit called Interior Junk #1 stock No. #2380.
also, did you hand paint the individual cans? Yes it takes some time but I did it. painting the words was the hardest. You will need to use a No. #18/0 fine line detailing paint brush.

Great progress, dunno why so little responses. Gotta say its coming along excellent, the paint came out top notch. Also the interior is very clean, one thing i noticed is when you put on the flocking it was in clumps. I don't know if you used a strainer, but it really spreads out the flocking and covers it well. The coke cans are a nice touch, but i just hate it when i spill some on my engine.

Hello all I'm back to finish up.

This time befor I build the radiator I needed to put in the braided lines on the engine oil pump, cool can; then the radiator build begins. for all of you who have not used braided lines befor you will need to use the hard lines that go in side the braided line. so when you shape the hose it will keep it's shape.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images21b.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images22.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images21a.jpg

The first time I shaped the hoses fro the cool can they where hanging to low I test fitted the body panel and didn't like the look so I reshaped the hoses to look more realistic i used copper wire for the tyes' and super glued them in place.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images23.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images24.jpg
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images25.jpg

One quick note I used copper wire for the brake lines. Thin I pained them silver and put the master Cel. on the fire wall.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images26.jpg

On the Radiator build I changed the way and where the fans will be located. I will use some of my resin fan on the inside facing the engine. then I test fit the fan and liked the look. First what I used to make the Radiator.
1.DM Coolint hose..........................(DM) DetailMaster
2.VRW Resin fans count 2
3. .015 thick Sheet Styrene
4.WireMesh type Brass
5. Testors Clear Cement for Plastc

Do not use the image of my hose to make yours that shape comes from the shape on the Instruction sheet. You will have to reshape the hose to fit you configurations.

Now on to the window your going to have to reshape the lower half of the window to fit properly.
sand down the lowest part of the window. your goint to half to fit the lipe of the window under the tope of the fire wall, then flip it in there dun!

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images35.jpg

Just before i wint and put the uper assembly on I just remeberd that I didn't make the top of the Coilovers wooooooooooooo! thats not good. So I cut some small triangles for the mounts and used StripStyrene 3/64" Rod + .025" Rod.the 3/64" was for the bolt mount and the .025" was the bolts'. Then I painted the top to mach the Chassis. (Sorry I did it so fast that I didn't take pix) Now I painted the radiator and put it on and the intake plenum.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images38.jpg

I had to cut a part of the front cowl to make room for the coolint hose.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images40.jpg

THE FRONT BUMPER Now thats a problem I put the bumper on the way the sheet tells you to but the sheet is rong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to cut down the mounting part of the bumper and put it up on the front of the radiator. I know your asking what do you mean. just look at what I mean! first the BAD fit thin the Right fit.

RONG LOOK thats not like the Real Truck MAN!- that go's out to the makers of the Models.
First the Reshape and fit on GOOD..................

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images47b.jpg
AND yes the hood will still open you know that you need to pull the hood to you then flip it up.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/White_r34/Vincents%20How%20tos/SideWinder-build_images47a.jpg
OH YES go back a Touch up all the things that need to be look after.
Seams I'm dun NOT YET!!!!!
ones I got the body panels on I wanted for the teal lights to look more realistic like real LAD light so I hand painted thim. First a all black back grown then silver as the basefor the tamiya clear red. At the end I painted the hole thing black around the light a put on the clear cover.

on the hood I used Clear Sheet Styrene for the front head light covers then put on the hood.

I think it looks good so far. Dubble meat, Dubble cheese, Dubble mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... LOL
Now for the Rear view mirrors. I didn't want to use the ones in the kit and I don't like the way they look, so I made my some that look more realistic.

I super glued the arm on than glued them to the body with testors cement so I could move thim in to the positions I wanted and held them up with tooth pics till they dryed. I painted them silver on the out side and gloss black on the face so I could use Alclad II Chrome ALC 107..

This build is too much to take in at one time! I love the interior. Also, what pen did you use to do your panel lines?

No pine was used to make the panel lines, I just used some Rustall black wash with a little black fabric paint in it to help it look darker.
thanks for looking I sorry I tock so long to get back to you. If any one want's the know any thing about my build just ask.

Wow! This is amazing. You did so much to this car, it looks absolutely stunning. First of all, all of the detail you put into everything is so crazy. I really love all of the special body work you put on the outside. But the inside, jeez, the details in everything like the cupholders, the dash, and the seats is unbelievable. It's really great man.

Well one reson that no one take's a long look at this thread is it's not an Import style vehicle. I have sean that over time some that didn't like it at first now have taking a long look at the work I put in to it and have E-Mailed me asking where'd I get this or how'd I do that. An I thank you all for taking a secend look and liking what you see here.
I'm working on some Build Off's on some different sites' one of them is a custom car from a US move called Corvette Summer. I have a lot done on the car, I'm going to start a new thread on the work that I have done on the car. Most of the work I have done will be like the work I have done non the truck. I hope you all go and look there when I start it. the name of the thread will be called (Corvette Summer Stingray in 1/25 scale).

Hey, if you do get the body done on that 'Vette, you must have it cast, and make it available to those of us who are old, and remember the movie.

A good place for refference would be to google "CORVETTE SUMMER" obviously, and also see if you can find some George Barris archive photos of it, as he was the one who actually built it, or oversaw the build anyway, not Luke Skywalker (Mark Hammil, haha)
