o.k., I have one for you guys! I've got a 92 camaro z28 with the check engine light on but when I went to do the jumper trick it didn't read anything, not even code 12. Any suggestions? the car is sucking in air and sounds like it has a vacuum cleaner under the hood, it shot the idle up to 1500-1700 rpm's, and seems like its dumping in more fuel than usual causing smoke out the pipes. also fans don't turn on anymore. this all happened at once. I've done the jumper before when I had a bad O2 but can't figure out why the light don't blink this time. :banghead:

Probably a bad ECM

I thought about that but wouldn't that give me a code?

Nope. If the ECM is bad enough to not give code 12 then it can't generate any other codes either.
You can check your ECM fuse in the fuse block and check the fuse over by the battery. That one is the ECM/fuel pump fuse.

thanks for advice! I changed ECM and engine light went off and car running normal but oil pressure still not giving a reading and fans still not turning on. I,m going to change the oil pressure sender this weekend and also chace the power leads to the fan. do you or anyone else happen to know of anything that triggers the fans besides the fan switch that won't throw off the engine light? I don't think it's the switch cause I just changed it a few months ago with a hypertech 200 on and 176 off and it was working great for a while. thanks again, at least half the problems are fixed!

That fan should be operating off of a relay along with the switch. On my '85 the relay is down by the radiator on the passenger side.

I think I found the problem, the relay is working fine, when I grounded the fan switch wire it clicked on. but I noticed that one of the wires in the the relay connector were expossed and all burnt up. so I ordered a new relay connector and I'll put it in when it comes then let you know of the progress. again thank for your help and advise!

Nice catch, my wife almost had her car towed home (there goes atleast 200 bucks) and have me throw in another new distributer on her Toyota (long story). When I told her to skip the tow and I'll go grab the dixt. out of the car, I got there and low and behold the ground wire was kinked jsut inside the harness, no groundy no sparkie. :(

changed out the relay connector and relay now fans turning on fine. one problem left, oil pressure gauge reads low but I think its just the oil pressure sender. thanks guys
