Front End Noise

Anybody have a solution to front end noise that is caused when the steering wheel is rocked back and forth at low speeds and/or when driving up a driveway. The sound is similar to a squeaking sound and/or clunking sound. I have had the Dealer attempt to service the problem on three separate occastion without fixing the problem. They replaced shocks as well as some frame to body gromets all of which did nothing.

Anybody that has had a similar experience or knows what the fix is please let me know.

Squeeking can be caused by the tie rod ends being dry. (mine were) They are sealed at the factory and not greasable. If you can find out where the squeeking is coming from (not an easy task) then you can replace it or in my case I drilled a small hole in it and gave it a shot of liquid wrench. As far as clunking, if you have the steering wheel turned all the way to one side, some of these cars have a problem with dry steering wheel stops. It can be fixed by putting a finger of grease on the stop itself. It is actualy in some of the maintenance manuals that came the car.

My car does this also. Haven't found the problem yet. I know I have to replace my ball joints, so I'm not sure if they are related.

I also noticed that a little plastic piece is missing that was in between to metal pieces behind the tire, might be it, but I don't know.

I had a similar problem with my '97 when I would go up and down a driveway as I turned the wheel all the way in either direction. I found out that it was the steering stops. If this is the case have them put a dab of grease there when you get the oil changed.
Other than that, I've had some noises if I go over a large bump or dip very fast and the front end bounces. I've had the front end looked at and everything is tight. The say that it could be dry grommets for body panel fastners.
