Does anyone know if the carb hole inn a 79 trans am breather base should be offset? I am putting a 400 in a trans am that did have a 301. The 301's hole is offset so that the shaker will sit squarely in the hood.
Thanks

Also, because i had to move the motor mounts to a higher position on the frame, will this put my fan into the radiator shroud? I also bought a set of Hedman headers, and they don't fit very well on the driver's side. The primaries rub on the lower A-arm. I couldn't even get them on until I did a little "dent-n-fit", They are on now, but they are still touching. Should I dent it more to give some clearence? The motor will torque away from the driver's side, but still don't want them rubbing. **IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING!!!*

The air cleaner base you have should fit, since the 400 was an option in '79. That is if your 400 is sitting right where the factory 400 sits. There were several header's avialable for the '79 T/A back in the first 5 years after they were made, selection is probably much more limited now..but you want to avoid dimpling the header tubes if you can as this will restrict flow. I used to have a '79 T/A way back when (in '83) and used Cyclone headers on it without any clearance problems. You could look into those or you could mark your header tube where it hits, figure out what kind of bend its going to take to get clearance, have a piece of pipe cut and bent to fit that area and then cut out the area and weld in the new tube.
