95 cutlass/is it the engine? help!

My 95 Cutlass has been a great good running car so far, even with 155,500mi. Regularly maintenanced with no major issues. Drove it about 2 miles and parked for 45 minutes. When I tryed to start car it immediately stalled. I tried it a second time and heard a tapping, pinging kind of sound from engine area and shut it off. Called for a tow home. Any ideas as to what this means?:banghead:

Welcome to AF, not without being there to hear it, have someone take a look/listen, what else! Maybe the belts came off, or a water pump seized or it is internal?
