got a 2000 GL, lights would come on then turn off with restart of the car. now they are on all the time, been that way for months. had the wheel speed sensors checked no problems. lights go off once in a while and everything works fine with rain or snow. mechanic doesnt know what to do possibly replace the abs control module. thats like 2k so looking for some thoughts, heard many people have this issue so thanks for the help.

Good God this must be an epidemic, I swear this is like the 10th post with this problem in the last couple weeks.
When you say your wheel speed sensors were "checked" what do you mean by that? Does that mean someone looked at them visually and said "yup theyre fine"? Because the sensors themselves cant even be seen, only the wiring to them.
Did you mechanic actually pull codes from the car that stated there was a problem with the ABS module? Or is he/she just guessing? There should be ABS-type codes stored, but they cant be retrieved with a common scanner, only a dealership Tech II scanner or equivalent can be used. Those type of machines usually cost a couple grand, so its mostly dealerships and well equipped mechanics that have them.

yea they checked the speed sensors indicating that they are working...other than that not sure.
the errors pulled from the scan at my mechanic were emc, and ccm. thats what i recall, it was a few months back. i havent gone to the dealership yet because i like my wallet :)
what do you think??
thanks for the thoughts

emc? you mean ECM maybe? Thats the Engine Control Module, which these cars dont have, I know we have a PCM or Powertrain Control Module. The ECM function should be built into the PCM. Sounds complicated.
CCM would most likely be Cruise Control Module, heres a question, does your cruise control work?

ok yes the error is ecm, not sure if the vehicle actually does have one. seems like you would know but thats the error. this model does have most options available on it so maybe. the cruise does work, although it does occationally cut out when i put a turn signal on or additional stress on the electrical system is added. that seems to be a regular occurance (electrical issues) on this model.

When working on the ABS. You need to specifically ask if the dealership used the Tech2 scanner. If they do not have the Tech2 you cannot get the proper diagnosis. =Goto a GM dealer for this sort of work and specifically ask that the use the Tech2 to scan for your codes.
