I am having problems starting my jeep. When I put the key in the ignition and turn it foward I hear a clicking noise.
So far I haev changed out the Plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, magnitic distributor relay switch, starter cylinoid and nothing seems to work. The ticking noise is still there. When I try to turn it over it seems that it wants to turn over but does not. There is good compression, getting gas.
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks
Ron

I had something similar a couple years back on my wrangler and it was the solenoid. If you have the haynes manual it's page 5-14, bottom right pic. It;s mounted on the engine compartment near the battery. It has like several wires coming off of it. Sorry I'm not very good with the terms but if it's difficult to understand I will go out and take a pic of it and send it to you. Anyways, I couldnt get a replacement in any auto stores, had to go to the jeep dealership to get it. Cost somewhere between 40-50$.
Good luck

Thanks for the help, I replaced that as well but it was not the problem. I had about 5 other guys scratching thier heads and I had to break down and take it to the dealership. They replaced the ECU on it, along with the distributor cap and rotar arm again. It is runing great now

Hey man.. you need to research the "nutter bypass". I've heard only good things abour it after researching it for a bit and plan on doing it to my 89 yj. It completely takes the computer out of the circuit so that is and will never be a problem for you. I know you just fixed it, but check it out.
Cheers.
