Larger Pistons.

Whats the disatvantages to having larger pistons? I am looking at 75.5mm, but it seems some poeple think thats bad, but they wont say way. :bloated:

If you get larger pistons.. You have to bore out the actual wells of the block.. Less metal there, less support.. Not enough support your engine goes BANG really loud.. And you are minus one engine simple cause there isn't enough strength in the metal to keep in the pressure. :)

I understand that, if you are using stock sleeves. But The block I am looking at has been resleeved for a bigger bore.

Other than the support issue ona stock block. Why wouldnt you want to use larger pistons?

Also, if you can achieve the same compression using aftermarket, OEM sized psitons, would it just be better to use those?

well larger pistons will help in certain ways. if you just put in larger pistons with out uping your fuel then you wont get the full power that you could out of those pistons. but the only thing you will change with larger pistons is comp ratio maybe unless you get the oem oversized pistons. but ive never heard any bad of putting larger pistons in. it hapens all the time. say your car had engine service and your cylander walls were scored, well larger oem pistons go in after a nice over bore of your motor

Larger bore=larger displacement. This means more power and torque. I think the d series can go as high as 79mm for a resleeved block.
