Any modelers from Germany here? Scale modeling recommendation?

As it turns out, I will be in Germany for next five weeks... This is not a vacation trip, so I am not totally looking forward to it. :frown:

I would like to make the best of everything, could anyone recommend shops or scale modeling related activities to look for while in Germany.

I will be in Erlangen, but will be going pretty much everywhere from Munich, Frankfurt, Nuremburg, etc...

Of course, I will definitely visit BMW/Benz/Porsche museums. :naughty:

Thanks,

Well, CifeNet, since you'll be 2.5/3 hours from Italy I reccomend to spend an half day to Maranello ;) it's worth the trip ;)

If you visit the Benz museum(which is really great!:grinyes: ), it´s just a 15min trip to "Nimpex" (www.nimpex.de). Only a small shop, but definitely worth a visit. ;)

Nimpex Spiel & Buch Vertriebs GmbH
Karlstr. 10
73770 Denkendorf

When you in the near of Nuernberg, you should look for "Modellcenter Nuernberg (http://www.modell-center.de/)":

Modellcenter Nuernberg
Dallinger Str. 4b
90459 Nuernberg

Haven´t been there myself, but some modeling friends told me very good things about it. You should know, they are not the cheapest. :grinno:

Once again proving that everything is subject to opinion.

If you're going to visit something with History which is more worthwhile, go to the Nurburgring and pay 30 Euros for a ride in the 'Ring Taxi' and visit the museum.

Hi Steve

I don't know how much sense it makes for you to try shopping for modeling stuff in Germany. The Japanese manufacturers are more expensive here than in the US or Japan. Maybe some European garage manufacturers will make sense.
When traveling to the Frankfurt area check the http://www.museum-sinsheim.de/. Lots of stuff there and the Hockenheim Racetrack is just around the corner.
If you get as far as the Nürburgring there's a worthwhile event in two weeks http://www.modena-trackdays.com/index.php?id=235 .....but it's during the week!
In Munich the http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/ has a new place since last year for cars and the likes. Haven't been there yet but it should be good. In the main Museum you also have planes and more.

...oh and about the ride in the Ring Taxi.....i think that costs a bit more and it's usually booked out months in advance, but for around 10-15€ you can go for a spin yourself and try to match your GT4-laptime and crash your rental in the process .-))

Yep, I said that cos he's doing a great job on the Enzo, so he'll be motivated by seeing the Gallery and stuff..

but I agree with you Ray, I'll have goosebump if anyone ask me to visit seven sisters brand headquarter ;) J/K

You're right, it's probably more now for a lap in the taxi.

hello,

I would recommende Nimpex, too, located in Denkendorf (Stuttgart suburban).
they have nice prices for an european store, especially on Revell kits, and moreover have a really big choice on rar models in europe (ertl, monogram, etc) and some TK or kits from Reji or even Scale Production.

a nice place where to spend 1 hour when modelling is part of your hobbies.

If you have spare time and want to see a couple of Bugattis I strongly recommend the Schlumpf Museum in Mulhouse (France) as it's just across the border. Really worth the trip (www.collection-schlumpf.com).

You definitely want to stop at the Technik Museum Sinsheim (www.museum-sinsheim.de). Don't miss out on that - but plan at least half a day.

If you have more questions feel free to PM.

Have a great time and enjoy it!

Cheers
Sebastian

PS: I live in Karlsruhe and Micha (sportracer02) lives near Heidelberg...

Thank you very much for great information! I also want to go Maranello, who wouldnt! :)

I will also pursue the idea of going Nurburgring.

Nimpex seems to be a place to check out as well.

I think I will be good; going to museums, the racing track, and hobby shops!

Thanks again
