Honda Crv Wont run

I have a 1998 Crv 2.0 I bought sight un seen well i got it home by trailer put in a new battery and found out that the alternator was locked up cut belt started right up ordered a new alternator put on and figured with 170,000 miles i would give it a full tune up well some how the coil went out so i bought a whole new distributor installed it and it will fire but wont start if it does start hit the gas and dies and the plugs are all sooted up but it will still act like it wants to start but it wont fuel pressure is fine i dont understand how changing an alternator can cause so many problems all wires are fine i think i have checked every thing anybody have any ideas:banghead:

did you set the timing and install the distributor correctly. with a lot of carbon on plugs it wont start even if timing is off just a little too much.
