Autolite Alt. For Olds?

I'm looking for a replacement Alt. for my '99' Intrigue w/ the 3.5. The orig. has finally bit the dust at 150,000 miles.
I did a search and came up with the #10464469 Alt. as the best replacement option. Now its up to $216 + $36 core from GM Parts Direct. Can't find much info on that Alt on that site and it appears that its a reman.
The Bosch units were priced out of my league.
Was searching around the net and found one at Advance Auto, only its made by Autolite. Part # N18011612, $182 new with a lifetime warranty and 24 month road service. Doesn't sound bad as the best I can find w/ a reman. is about $140.
Has anyone had any experience with this Alt?

I didnt know Autolite even made alternators. Let alone one for the 3.5.

Find out what all the warranty covers. If for some reason their design is based on the original GM design, it might very likely have the same problem as the original. Which would probably not be covered by a warranty, as it does not cause the battery to go dead, only ceases to charge it momentarily and repeatedly.

My alt died last summer. I ordered one from autozone.com. My car still has the the flickering headlights occationally (its a 2000). The alt I got was a remanufactured duralast, part # DL1801-16-12. Cost was $134.99 plus $35 core charge. Probadly any cheap alt will continue to have the flickering thing. but if you dont mind, go for it. Changing the alt out is a pain in the butt, I also got a new battery at the same time.

I decided against the Autolite and went with the Auto-Zone Reman. The Autolite would have taken up to a week to come in and I got the Auto-Zone one the next day. Now all I have to do is put it in!
Thanks for the replies.

To All Intrigue Owners,

My name is Will, I own a 2001 Olds Intrigue with the 3.5L

I have 170,000 miles on it, and it's been thru 2 alternators since 2001 due to the flickering problem. Well the second alternator straight from the dealer did not solve the issue in 2002, so I gave up until that second one began overcharging my battery at 17.5volts this year.

I too looked around for an alternator and found the Autolite. I even called them and they promised they were aware of the problem and had implemented a fix. I ordered it from partsamerica, and it came in three days. PITA to install.

Well, it lasted ONE week (500 miles). It DID NOT fix the flickering light problem, so Autolite Corp lied to me on the phone. But it still looks awesome and new in there but its not charging the battery at all now. It must have burned itself out.

Needless to say I am scared to put another Autolite alt in there, and will be returning it. I'm going to go with a bosch alt this time, unless somebody pipes up saying what else I should do....

This thread is a little old, next time just start a new thread.

When you install a new ( or reman.) alternator make sure you charge your battery on a charger if it has gone dead. If you allow the alternator to recharge a dead battery it can burn the alt out, especially if the battery is old and will not hold charge. It causes the alt to run continuously, which in return can burn it out.

Well if im reading the TSBs correctly. The alternator problem was fixed for all cars after a certain point in 2001 and all cars in 2002 right? Does anyone else get that same impression when reading the TSB on the headlight issue?

If that is in fact the case, I would get an alternator from a 2002 Intrigue, they are often available on Ebay in the neighborhood of 50 bucks.

I may be reading the information wrong though.

I can't speak for all 2002 Intrigue owners but my 02 has never had the flickering headlights.

Exactly, and I did this out of good measure. And I will have to do this again for this fourth alternator because like I said, the Autolite actually stopped charging the battery. And I ordered the Autolite because the GM A/C alt was overcharging the battery most of the time at 17.5v

I bought the bosch 21739 at Murrays for $170 BUT according to panzer dragoon that bosch is REALLY just a REMY alternator.

I called NAPA HQ and they said they were never aware of the alternator flicker problem...

Hope this Remy will last AND fix the flicker problems...

Those are both half the price of the re-manufactured unit, and might just solve the flickering headlights issue.
