Answer the poll question and if you ever have tell us about your experience.

I've never been pulled over for a street race, which is kind of lucky because any race in my town that goes over 35 you could get pulled over for.

I am marking yes even though I ended up not getting pulled over. I raced my friends 98 Z28 on a highway before with the GT, right as we passed under a bridge, a cop pulled out from under with his lights on, I saw it and instantly slowed down as he pulled up behind me, meanwhile my buddy didn't see it happening and continued to accelerate. The cop went from behind me to pass and follow my friend.

I was racing against a early 70's Mustang in my old Chevelle a while back - on this road there was one lane going north and one lane going south seperated by a double solid yellow line. I didn't want to cross the yellow to pass the guy so I kept a car length behind him as he tried to put distance on me. I don't know how fast we were going when we blew past a motorcycle cop sitting on his parked bike. We put a few hundred yards on the cop by the time he started his bike and gave chase.
We were approaching a slower car (who wasn't involved in the race) and the Mustang crossed the double yellow to pass him and made a quick right turn up a side street. I slowed down behind the slower car and paced him, ready to accept my speeding ticket.
In my rear-view mirror I saw the cop, who was now about 100 yards away. He slowed down as he approached the street where the Mustang turned, looked at me, then looked down the street after the 'stang while he decided who to chase. Lucky me, he went after the 'stang.

Back in my early days with a license, I got busted for racing a bmw and doing 74 in a 50. With a minivan. Luckily I was able to use a PFJ and got it wiped off my record.

A few months ago I was riding shotgun in my friends RSX-S while we were racing a 1.8T Jetta on the highway. After a couple runs were we came out on top, we took an exit and got onto one of the main streets in my area (Capital Blvd in Raleigh). As we did another run a cop came out from behind us and pulled over both cars.

Back in the young and dumb days I was messing around with a buddy in his explorer and I had a Dodge Ram and a cop saw us but he just wrote me up for "excessive torque".

Werd, however, in the fine state of Nebraska we also have what is called "excessive vtec" which was a bill passed in order to write those up who do not have the torque needed to get an excessive torque ticket but instead are stuck with a high winding vtec motor.

I've never gotten a ticket for racing but I caused another person to get a ticket. He wanted to race and I saw the cop, he didn't. I revved up like I was going to race and when the light turned green he took off and I pulled off like normal. He got pulled over. Later that night the cop pulled me over to chat. He told me that he thought he was going to be giving two tickets.

I've ditched a cop car before. They're not exactly fast, but you gotta ditch them in a hurry, cause otherwise you have a chopper, or more cops to contend with. It also helps if it's late at night, and there aren't many motorists out. Cop cars are very slow typically (Meaning the Ford Crown Victorias). Usually i'll pull over though, and suck up a ticket.

I just don't see any reason in getting pulled over street racing, cause the dickheads over here don't just give you a ticket, they crush your car.

WHAT!?! runaround Where do you live and where can I find that law? Thats just plain crazy. I dont know how any government would pass a law that would allow personal property to be destroyed for street racing.

In illinois they auction your car for a low low price....you can get some good deals at our police auctions.

I've never been pulled over but i have had more close calls then i can count, and i've had to turn my lights off and cut some corners several times.

Vehicle-forfeiture legislation: A vehicle will be declared a nuisance and permanently seized if it was used in a race or exhibition of speed and the driver has a prior conviction for certain serious driving offenses (such as reckless driving or evading officers).

Usually the car will be sold at auction and the money is deposited in the city's general fund. But when they want to send a message (as they did just before the F&F sequels were released) they call a press conference at a junkyard and they crush an impounded car in front of all the newscameras and photographers who attend the conference. That was in SoCal but similar laws are being passed everywhere.

That sounds better. Crushing a car on a first offence is kind of harsh. Expecially when you put so much into the car.

Not caught, but I came close once.

Right before one of my buddies went to the big ol' Sandbox (Iraq), we decided to have one last run for fun, ya know, a race for the road and all. We lined up at about 45, we were only gonna go to about 80 or 90, and honked down. We both punched it, I started pulling, but my buddy hit the brakes hard. I was at about 60 when this happened (in a 40 mph zone).

I looked up, a squad car was right on my ass. He followed me for about a mile or two, my buddy staying their the entire time (he said if I got stopped, he was gonna stop too. Thats one hell of a friend). And I mean, he was doing that cop riding the ass thing, where if you sneezed he was gonna be in your back seat. And it wasn't like he couldn't pass, either, it was a four lane each way road. After that two miles of total fear, he just jumped out a lane, turned, and left us be. This was about two months ago, and still no ticket, so fingers crossed there.

I havent been caught for racing but I have been stopped for a 115 in a 65, I was actually doing over 120 but I managed to slow down a bit before I pulled over for the cop. That was in the jetta. Still no points on the record though! I've got a good lawyer, didnt even have to go to court or anything for that one.

I was thinking about this. If street racing is illeagle then the government should open tracks accross the nation for people to race on for free! It should have 20 miles of track, all kinds of turraines, a 3 lane road, one direction, no speed limits. It would be great! Then we could all race for free and test our cars.

Yeah, except that would be expensive. Not even 1/4 mile drag strips are free.

I do wish the USA had something like the Nurburgring, only here though.
