Oil question(s)...

I have a few(possibly retarded) questions about conventional vs. synthetic. I'm hearing alot of different "facts" from different people so I was wondering if you guys could help me out. What's the difference? Which is better for a high mileage car, especially one driven aggresively on occasion? Is it a good idea to do an engine flush when you change your oil? I heard some guy talking some crap about how certain deposits in your engine are bad but some need to be there  I was planning on draining, putting in cheap oil, filter and the detergent, redraining and filling up with mobil 1 syn and a decent oil filter. Is this a bad idea? My car has 161k on it. Anyhow, thanks for answering my newbie questions. :D

synthetic oil is very thin so using it on a high milage car might not do anygood...
youll probably burn it off real fast and then itll be a waste of money.

just use 10w30 and your good to go...as long as you do regular oil changes and maintanance on your car it will last longer...
synthetic oil alone wont make it run forever.

What about a semi-syn? Also, after I get my engine rebuilt should I switch to full synthetic?

if you rebuild it then you can use synthetic

You can safely us synthetic oils in a high mileage vehicle. The recommended method is to flush the engine first. One thing you may notice is a slight use of oil to begin with, in many cases this tappers off after time. All I can say is try it. As to your question on the makeup of synthetic compared to conventinal oil I read a brochure on synthetic-lubricants.com about synthetic oil here is the link hope this helps>>>http://www.synthetic-lubricants.com/Motor%20Oil%20and%20Engine%20Filtration%20Informat ion%20Brochure.pdf
