muffler

i just bought a 96 caprice with the 5.7 350 motor....it is just going to be my daily driver car...i just want to replace the muffler...what is the deepest and most aggressive sounding muffler i can put on the car?

Your car has two mufflers, not one. For deep and aggressive, really not much beats a set of dirt-cheap turbo mufflers.

who makes them i have never heard of it....im pretty sure there is only one muffler...there is no duel exhaust, only one pipe in the right rear corner

If it only has one pipe, then I hate to tell you this but you don't have a 5.7/LT1. You have a 4.3/L99. All factory LT1 Caprices came with dual exhaust.

In that case, you only need one muffler. These are generally made by Thrush/Cherry Bomb etc. They're about $15 at your local Autozone/Checker/etc. DO NOT let anyone talk you into glasspacks. Ever.

What I did was this> when I took it in to my buddies private shop we removed all the old from cat back, mufler, resonator, and 20 year old pipe. First we replaced the cat and o2 sensor( never a bad idea if you are there already working) this took care that the factory emissions laws were ok. Next start it up with just the cats and no mufler pipe or resonator.....you would not believe how deep and melow sounding it is, and well under the universal 110db law most states have. Now mine is a 88 305 caprice that I was getting ready to spend $380.00 for that deep V-8 sound turns out you only need $80 of 3" mandrell bent tubing a welder and a 2.5" to 3" adapter. I got the sound and freed up some power for very little.....AND I am still leagal. I can record the exhaust note if you want.

I wimped out and put a Flowmaster Delta 50 on my son's '83. It has a nice low rumble. He likes it and he can still hear his music (music!...you call that music?..I'd rather hear the car!) but I wish we'd done the Flowmaster 40.

I did a pair of Flow 40s on my '94, and kept the resonators since they are straight through anyway. It sounds a little like this (or, exactly like this):

That's at the rear of the car. Inside, I can barely hear it.

Flowmasters would get you the sound you want. They have a very distinct sound. I also like the Dynomax mufflers.
