Just bought my 04 Cavalier a little over a week ago and already have a slight annoying problem. There is a "sqeaking" noise that is coming from the inside of the dash. It makes this noise even when you are going over a smooth road. When I purchased a new 2000 Neon it started doing this when the temp dropped real low in December. Took it back to the dealer and they knew right away what the problem was. It seemed that when the temp dropped that most Neons had this noise. They had to pull the dashboard to fix it. All I know is the noise is coming from behind the gauges. Anyone out there had this same noise? If so where should I check to try and figure the location of the sqeak? Many thanks.

Welcome to owning a J-body. Interrior dashes are pretty much all plastic so if some nut or bolt is loose thats your problem. As to which it is.... i have no idea. There are many many of them. Turn your radio up a little louder, best advice i can give ya!

Same, or stick something in between the dash and radio bezel, right above the steering wheel, usually stops it, im taking mine off and getting foam strips to put on the edge and put the dash back in to hopefully get rid of the noise. I also get this really weird noise, can someone explain it, sometimes my glvoebox squeeks really bad, and if i push in the top right corner of the glovebox lid, it goes away, checked every screw to make sure its tight and ripped everything apart tryin to find the problem, but still does it....can even hear it over the cranked music....very annoying.

GM's fix for dash squeaks is to spray some silicone. I was told this by a GM Dealer when my Dad bought a 03 Ford F350 off them that had a dash squeak. he told me thats all they do to cure it and it works everytime. I've yet to get around to using it on my Dad truck but I was gonna spray the truck and my car but most of the time I use Classicrocjunkie's way.

Edit: and yhandor you obviously don't have it cranked loud enough lol.

Finally found the orgin of the noise! This one had me scratching my head but found out it wasen't the dash but the drivers side top strut mount. I always use wd-40 to try and find where the noise is coming from. Sure enough it was the top of the strut. Noises can throw you off because I swore it was coming from the inside around the dash area. What would be wrong with the upper strut that would be making the noise? Is this a commom problem?
