if one side of the box is plexi, and it is sufficiently thick, then it should be no problem.

aside from the price difference,
i think the sides can be 3/4" if you use it there,
but the front should be at least an inch thick...
also, it'll crack a lil easier than wood will...
aside from that, handle it like wood
but they'll already know that...

what if it was half pexiglass and the other half mdf like some fiberglass boxes.

if the subs are mounted to the glass go 1" or better...
if the subs are not mounted to that piece of glass, try not to go thinner than
3/4" because the thinner the glass is the the more flexible the box will be and
a flexible box is a bad box...

you really only need one side to be plexi. I did a real cool one a number of years back with an isobarik clamshell. The plexi panel was on the top side of the box, the speaker pair was on the "bottom". I painted the inside of the box with that fleckstone spray paint and neon swirl stuff. The basket of the sub on the top (the one inside the box) was painted the same color as the car. It was really cool back in the day. When IASCA was king of the car audio contests, the install appearance was pretty important - so there were lots of nice installs back then.
