i think i need some help...i have a 90 talon tsi...no spark, no injector pulse...i replaced the crank sensor thinking that was is..nope...the only other thing that i can think of is the ECM..i know that the ecm has the injector drivers in it, but does the signal for spark start from there also? im not 100% on what else could controle both of them or if its just that all the coils are gone. i looked to see if i was getting spark off of ANY of the wires(new wires), and after i tryed to start the car for a good 10 min i did not smell any gas anywhere, i went as far as smelling the tail pipe :icon16: . any ideas guys?

Pull the ECU, take a real good look to make sure the caps aren't leaking. Also give it a smell and make sure it doesn't smell fishy. Let us know what you find.

You also shouldnt have to start the car to see if there is a check engine light

Good catch NOFX, I compeltely missed that. He is right, the CEL should come on for 5 seconds and the boost gauge should move to the zero (0) position when you turn the key to the "On" position, then it should go off. If it doesn't, you need to pull the code.

Either way, I would still check the ECU, since it's the most common 1g, no start problem.

the ecu looked ok i guess , i dont know what they normaly look like . there was no sopts looking like somthing was leaking out , and i gave it a wif and it did almost have a fishy smell...i car sat for a good 7 months befor i bought it. and the pump is new.

Well, if it does have a fishy smell, then the caps are most likely leaking. You might just not be able to see the damage yet. You can send it out and have it tested, or you might be able to get away with posting some high res pictures over on tuners and having Steve take a look at them.

i went ahead and replaced the ecu and that was the problem ! first crank she fired right up and was ready to go..kinda...now i see that the boost gauge does not move at all and the oil presure shoots up when i hit the gas..it goes 1/2 way between the 1/2 and high mark? and goes back down when i let off.. im guessing thats not normal. the oil smells and looks good ,its kinda low i dont know it that would cause it to shoot up like that or would it? any ideas?

EDIT: i also have no clutch pedal...it sits at the floor...i tryed pulling it up with my foot to see if it was just stuck or somthin and it just stayed down...the fulid level is full.. now this is my first stick shift that i have ever owned so i dont know very much about this aspect... but im guessing that is just the hydrolic part of the clutch is gone and not the clutch its self?

Alright, well we're getting there. The boost gauge is controlled by the ECU. When you turn the key to the on position, the CEL should illuminate for 5 seconds and the boost gauge should move to the zero position. Does that happen? Although, unlikely, it is possible that the ECU you picked up is also on it's way out. Did you replace it with an ECU from a '90?

For some odd reason, it sticks in my head that the '90 ECU's are different than the other 1st gens, but I'll have to look into that.

As for the clutch pedal, are you saying that there is no way for you to pull up the pedal or is it just hard to pull up? Did anything happen prior to the clutch sticking? Have you crawled under the dash and check for physical damage. On the 2g's, there is both a master and a slave. I would check them out and make sure neither are leaking. Keep in mind, I can tell you how the 2g works, but I'm not sure if the 1g is the same.

For the 2g and maybe the 1g.....

If you look under the dash you will see where the master cylinder rod comes through the firewall. Check and make sure that isn't leaking. After that, check the slave cylinder. You will have to get under the car in the front, right about in the middle between the two tires. It will be bolted to the front of the tranny and you should see a rubber boot that covers the rod. Pull that boot back and if you see any fluid, it needs to be replaced.

If not, you should try and bleed the system. Bleed the master first and then the slave.

sorry its taking me so long to reply. the boss it trying to work me to death, i went and bought a bran new ecu from the parts store..i got my college discount it was about $160. the mil light does go off but the boost gauge does not move at all. and as for the clutch pedal, nothing happen to it that I know of, it was like that when i picked it up. i just thought it was from sitting so long, i can pull it up easly and it will stay up untill i push it down , then it stays at the floor. i looked at the master quickly and did not see any signs of leaking. this car sat for im guessing 7 months to a year or so, o do u have any ideas on y the oil pressure shoots up when i hit the gas? pluged oil passages ?

I say just run an aftermarket boost gauge. More accurate anyway right?

The reason I asked about the boost gauge, was because the ECU will show communication by moving the factory boost gauge to the zero position and illuminating the CEL for 5 seconds.

o i c. did not know that. it does light the mil and it goes off but like i was saying the boost gauge does not move at all.... and i think i know whats up with my clutch...the hydrolic clutch release cylinder...if thats not it its the release bearing in the clutch its self
