V-tech Controllers Help

never knew how much a power gain v-tech controller can give you on say an 04 civic...by the way if anyone knows please let me know....but was told the older controllers with the blue screens and sliver backin wont work on an 04 civic i have to get the 7th gen style....so that brings me to....which v-tech controller will work for a 2004 honda civic ex 1.7ltr and is it hard to install...thankyou
