Wow, nice, how hard was it to get the Tach in? Don't wanna jack your thread or anything, but my friend has a mazda protege, and it doesn't come with a tach but he wants to install a tach, where can he buy it from? Is it hard to install? Does he need a tach reader or something?

Hey lookin good, how do you change the cluster bulbs...i took out my cluster, and on the back is those green things you turn and out comes the bulb, problem though, i cant get the bulb out of the green socket, how do you go abouts doing it? I wanted to do this for a long time but can't figure it out. Also, are they 194 bulbs? Thanks much.

The tach is autometer ATM-1397

3 wires - signal from car, switched power and ground ( i used a tach adaptor)
2 wire for lighting ( positive and neg) Those are tapped into the wiring going to the dimmer switch.

I bought new gauge cluster sockets from my old job 1/2" ones. They are plug and play, i didn't feel like dicking around with the old ones which required to be soldered. No thanks when new sockets were 2 bucks each.

LEDS are #194 style 5 angle from superbrightleds.com and the HVAC are #74

I can't wait to get my other gauges installed and light them up with LEDS as well cause it looks soo much better than b4.

LEDS are #194 style 5 angle from superbrightleds.com and the HVAC are #74

this one

www.superbrightleds.com is the website

4 - #194 bulbs are in the gauge cluster ( this only works for 95-99 cavs) 00+ ur fukked.

http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/3889/20070610image0002rh3.jpg

...rest of these are going into my autometer gauges.

2- #74 are in the HVAC ( original bulbs.. i broke both trying to yank em out. They are soo damn small and very little surface area to grip onto them. Then spent 10 mins trying to get all the glass out of them.

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/4899/20070610image0003mu3.jpg

... i ordered an extra after breaking all the original bulbs. I under estimate my strength.

4 - Conduct- Tite! 1/2" Instrament Panel sockets ( P/N 85835) Get at Adavance Auto or Autozone

http://www.partsamerica.com/product_images/aap/rnb/8583508522.jpg

..plug the 194 leds into these and twist back into instrament cluster.

how did you access the HVAC bulbs? did the front come off or something? i know how to take the dash and everything off but i have never had to get into the HVAC so i dont know how to take it apart

Classicrocjunkie
06-10-2007, 08:30 PM
YOu have to take the dash off, the sockets are then accessable. They are right ontop of the back of the HVAC. I did a little more than that, i added tin foil behind the clear plate inside mine to try to get more light out out the unit. It gives off better light then with just the leds inside. To do that you must remove the radio bezel. I don't have pics doing this either, nor do i feel like taking mine apart again, sorry.

JStumpalump150
06-10-2007, 08:47 PM
i have taken the dash and the radio bezel off before cuz i had to put some tape over my ABS light (woops....did i say that??) so i know how to do that and i have some regular green 194 bulbs laying around, so you think they would work good cuz the green WLED's cost like $4.50 a peice, and i can just go pick up some of those socket things at the auto store. i mean the stock bulbs are just regular ones right? so these should be the same just green.

JStumpalump150
06-10-2007, 11:09 PM
i just placed my order for those cluster and HVAC bulbs and ill get pics up when they get here. now i can take the green sharpie off of my HVAC knobs cuz they will actualy glow green and will match my cluster.

yhandor
06-11-2007, 01:08 AM
How do you order from that site I couldnt find it, also, the sockets for the 194, Im in Canada, what are they called exactly so I can get some, thanksssss

JStumpalump150

you hit buy now, then select the type and quantity of bulbs and hit add to cart, then go over to check out.

so i was at napa today buying those twist in bulb holders and the guy at the counter brought out these ones that already had the bulbs in them for like $5.75, so i asked him if he had any without the bulbs cuz i was putting LED's in them and he said yes and they were $3.15 but he went on telling me that LED's use more power and make more heat than normal bulbs and they would catch my cluster on fire.
i knew he was full of shit but i just said "yeah i know, i but i think i will risk it" cuz he just wanted me to buy the more expensive ones even though LED's use a lot less power and have almost no heat. i hate how people think you are completly ignorant and have no clue what your doing just so they can sell you more expensive stuff that is not needed. but i caught him in his lie and now i hope he feels like an ass.

this guy also did this earlier this year when i bought some super white bulbs for my low beams that turned out to be super dull bulbs, but he assured me they were the real deal and said i could get my money back if i didnt like them.....but i didnt like them and he wouldnt give me my money back. we ended up getting into a fight and he said he didnt give a SHIT about what i had to say because he wasnt giving my money back. then i turned around and said he swore at me and wanted to talk to the manager and BOOM i got my money back cuz he got scared and didnt want to get the manager.

well thats the end of my rant, and the moral of the story is that you should not believe anyone behind the counter of any store cuz they all do the same thing, they lie to sell you there products.

Classicrocjunkie
06-12-2007, 02:55 PM
LED use more power??? What a big fucking duche! They consume ALOT less! When i had my regular incandesant bulb in my autometer gauge connected into my dimmer switch wire, my cluster wasn't as bright. I think the pics above will show that its totally false. When i tested the extra led to see if it drew more power, the gauge cluster didn't even dim!

I hope he burns he car and himself to the ground

.... on a side note, don't try and hook 4 gauge lights up on your HVAC lights. Umm... you'll short out a circuit and get all pissed off.

So yea, thats where i have been. Re-wiring my damn car.. lol.

what do you mean CRJ?

Classicrocjunkie
06-18-2007, 08:14 PM
Well a lot of the autometer gauges are lit up with 194 light bulb. I threw all LED's in mine and you need to wire those up to a switch 12v power source. I already had a lot wired into the dimmer switch light source i didn't dare chance doing that. But apparently i still screwed something up in the car. I tapped into the yellow and grey wire ( 20 ga mind you) that the lights in the HVAC are lit up on. It all worked for a while, untill i buttoned everything back up and then they just went out. No fuses are blown and those wires have no power. So i had to tear everything back apart looking for the cause, never found that out and said to be safe i made my own power source right from the battery with a 15amp inline fuse all ran on a 14 gauge wire. Then i installed a switch to be able to control power to them. Which actually after i thought about it was a smart idea for cop issues. I have known several people cited for having many gauges which they say are distracting... anyways....
