The fans normally dont start until the temp gauge reaches the half way mark and then the low fan should start, if the temp increases, the hi fan will come on and run with the low fan. I am having overheating issues and trying to figure them out. Have heard everything from plugged radiators, bad thermostats, cracked heads, etc and have gone thru my dodge with a fine toothed comb. I havent determined whether its a coolant leak yet but I think I am on to the culprit! My fans come on normally, my heater core and radiator are clean, but I still lose coolant in the summer. I found that by removing the low fan relay I can get the fans to come on at start and this keeps the car cool. As near as I can figure at this point is either the water pump isnt circulating water fast enough or I have a slight leak somewhere. I currently have a catch bottle connected to the overflow and as yet to see any water collection. I looked over the water pump system and have found that they have a Pee poor system on the 3.5 litre engine. Dual overhead cams and the pump runs off of the back side of the timing belt. The bad part about this is the drive belt only lays against the pulley about one third of the circumference of the pully. I am almost betting that the pump is slipping on the belt sometimes. The engineer who dreamed this idiotic mess up needs his head smacked! Whatever you do, dont run the car when its in overtemp! You will end up with bigger probs than you have now! Good luck and feel free to e me on my progress.
