Yeah, I'm kinda jealous. My stepdad's stepdad :sly: was working on a house(he does electrical wiring), and it was right next to this old lady's house. The old lady came over and was talking with him, and she started talking about how her husband passed away, and that she was about to sell her house and move into a nursing home. She asked him if he knew anyone interested in the house or furniture, he said he didn't. She then said she had an old Camaro sitting in her garage, wanted to know if he knew anyone interested in it. He asked the year, 1969, Camaro SS. He said yes, he was interested.

He told me, then I said try and get it off of her... I said she'll probably sell it cheap, I said he could probably get it for $1500, figuring it was just a rusty body/frame, and she didn't know the value.

The next day(yesterday 6/7/07)
She invites him over to look at it...

Original paint, original interior, etc... Not mint mind you, but damn near close. He asked how long the car had been sitting in there, she said a/b 40yr. Her husband bought it for her, she didn't like it and it sat there. ~20 original miles.:eek7: He said he was definitely interested in it. She said ok, I'll talk to you about it more later.

She calls him back over a little while later, and says that if he's really interested he could have it. She gives him the key... He came over and tried to start the car. It took a few tries, but it started right up. No leaks or noises out of the ordinary, but he promptly shut it off (40 yr old gas= no good).

The car has a gauge cluster in it. It also apparently has nitrous hooked to it. Any idea what motor was in this car? (I think I overheard 455, but am not for certain).

I'll get pics ASAP, he's supposed to trailer it to the house next week (sometime). Then he's going to tear it down and replace all the seals (to refresh it). I'll try and be there during that time, but he usually works on cars alone and probably wouldn't do much while I'm there... Though he offered me the nitrous kit and gauges.

I'm thinkin' FMIC sprayer.

To be truthful, I was actually thinking about using the nitrous to spool the turbo... something to the effect of this kit:

Nope, she has no family that she mentioned. He's going to clean it up, but it'll be his machine. He used to have one, built the hell out of it, blower and everything. Something happened when he started it, piston right through the blower. He sold it off to someone, he was just frustrated, and had sank too much into it.
This one he said he's going to freshen up, and keep...

BTW, even the 8-track still works :P

If it's a 69 SS, IIRC they came original with a 375hp 396 big block with a 4 bolt main, which isn't an easy motor to come by these days for a half-ass decent price...I've been looking for about 3 years now and haven't found anything yet.

A 69SS Camaro with a 455 sitting for how years?. 1, 455 is not Chev, it is Buick or Olds.I think I read with 20 miles on it. Taht car would not even think of starting, hell it wouldn't even roll over with or without a boost. 38 years in a garage. This story stinks so bad Santa Claus has a mask on. Really, you guys actually buy this?

Considering he is a reputable member... Yes... I do believe him. I'll believe him even more once we see some pictures of it... Seriously, do you not believe in luck for things like this to happen? Didn't you hear about that guy who bought a farm and there was this old barn all locked up and when he opened it up there were dozens of vintage cars in it in mint condition... That is a true story, so I pretty much Believe Mike about his Camaro story...

Also he said that he "thought" it was a 455 but wasn't sure... We then later confirmed it to be a 396 big block...

I'm sure he meant 454, which is a Chevy big block. And yes, I do believe him, like Brian said, he's a reputable regular member on here. Also he didn't say that he got in the car and fired it right up, he said after awhile it started, and with that few of miles on it it would almost be like a brand new engine so nothing would be wore in and have very little friction. Rings not rusted in place = a car that runs.

Also Mike, I re-read your first post again and now I read that you said it had a 455, but I'm guessing it's a 454 (which is also a very good motor). The car would have came O.E. with the 396 but a 454 would easily be swappable and probably is what is in the car, I know tons of people that put 454's in old Camaros, Novas, Vettes, Chevelles, etc.....think of it like dropping a boosted 4g63 into a 1g NA.

Why wouldn't we? I think of a reason why someone would take the time to dream up a story like that, so yeah I believe him as well. It's not like he had the title in front of him when he posted it or even pictures to refer too so he made a guess to begin with on the engine size, so what if he was wrong.

Get over yourself

To my knowledge, it is true... I haven't talked to Jason since he told me this, but his wife watches my daughter, and it's my ex's week to have her... I've been tied up with family matters...

BTW, Sunday was the first time I've ever had a car stolen and recovered in better condition than when it was stolen... The BMW was recovered about 30 miles from my house with tinted windows, pinstripe removed, very meticulous detailing, and the smell of weed

I swear to you, the car didn't even look the same... one of the things that made me realize it was our car is the sunroof... it's a california edition, and very rare... Too bad they didn't have it another week, then it'd have rims :p

Edit: oh and twisted, I've got a few more posts than you... so people know me... and I have no reason to lie about this... not like I was up here tellin' everyone I have 12000+ hp and would kill their cars... There's nothin' for me to gain here from lying...

Sry about not updating this thread... and sry I'm still lacking pics... I'm in the process of selling two turbos to scrape together cash for putting the AWD together...

LOL!!!!!!! I CANT wait to see it, I LOVE the 69 SS camaro.

Is there a better muscle car ? :P My first car was a 69 camaro rust bucket..by no means factory or show condition and after 5K of investments..it looked the same and I was pissed so I scraped it lol..a sad day indeed.

Also , by 455 he may mean the chev BB 454 however if memory serves the SS had either a limited edition 383 or a 396 then died down to the 350, etc..

400 SB best engine ever though !

IIRC camaros came with either 350s or a 396. Considering he said it has ~20 miles and was owned by an old lady I'm going to guess that its stock also I have a hard time believing they would have installed a nitrous kit on the car and if it has been sitting for 40 years I dont know if I would use any part of that kit.

I haven't seen the car yet, but supposedly it has the nitrous on it. The car has a button on the shifter for the nitrous (from what I was told)...

I don't know what condition anything is in, but I wouldn't have a problem using the tank, if it's not rusty...

Oh, and the car supposedly has the 396.

I have been workin' my ass off and haven't even had a chance to see if he brought the car home yet.

Truthfully, I'm kinda ticked at Jason(stepdad's stepdad). He's now trying to sell his Sequoia. I think that's a really stupid move, I mean he can barely afford it, but I think he should wait until he knows that this car will be reliable.

He also won't buy a battery/alternator for his wife's Tempo. They had me pull the damn alternator, and then when they described the problem and I told them it sounded like a bad battery, they wanted me to put it back on.... ARGGHH...

Sry guys, this weekend was a long one...
I did manage to pull the motor out of my TSI(FWD). I also managed to mangle some tools while working on the brakes on the BMW. Still didn't get the damn brakes finished... Then fought with valve covers on a Buick, and an ex b/c it took so long... Then the motor stopped when I dropped the car off at her house (how's that look on me... but seriously 15k+ since last oil change... WTF)... New tires blowing on a Honda, and stuck on lugnuts...

And running outta $$$ and cigarettes.... FTL

Fuuuuuuck thaaat. Not much I love (muslce wise) more than a well done Camaro. There was a few years of Nova I liked in there too and the first car I ever fell in love with was a royal blue '66 Corvette. Cuda's are pretty cool though too, did you ever watch Nash Bridges? He had a yellow one and it went on eBay for like $76,000. I must say, if I was to get a project car other than a Mitsu it would definately be a Chevy.

Bleh SS haters I say...just kidding.
Pound for pound though I think the SS produces som better numbers all around and can turn more heads then the Cuda. It's not a bad car though either.

Blacky ,

I thought the 400 was a chevy limited motor and the pontiacs were 403's or 406's or something like that. 6.6 litre or whatever O.o

Nope, Pontiac dropped the 455 in 76' and then switched over to the 400 in 77'...

Here is some interesting reading into the history of it if anybody is interested... :)

Oh I ain't hatin on the SS, I fuckin love the Camaro, it's just the Cuda is a more rare/expensive car, that's why it's a better "muscle car." Now on the other hand, the Camaro I think is a better looking car, it's just there were sooooo many in production that they're just too common compared to the Hemi Cuda, and this is coming from a guy who's dad owns a black '68 SS Camaro in which we're searcing the for original motor, a silver '68 Z28 Camaro with the rare as hell HP302 motor, and a '67 sitting in the woods waiting to be fixed on. ;)
