Could use a hand with a system

I'll try to make it short and sweet. I got an Alpine M450 220 RMS amp, 2 10" Pioneer subs that I believe from memory are 130-150 rms apiece. The box I got for that system is huge and takes up 3/5ths my trunk...it's about 3 cu. ft./weighs 40-50lbs I had built it myself trying to learn how it's done, and did a pretty damn good job, I'll take some pics when my digicam arrives via mail.

I want to downsize my enclosure by going for 1 12" that runs about 250 RMS give or take (I want more but I got a tight budget)...what's the best amp/sub combo for under 500$ to get quality (priority, i want Top Back by T.I. to be crisp but I'll sacrifice it a bit, just a bit, to get some volume). Does anyone got an experienced opinion for me on this? If I had some cash I'd just try it all out for myself, but I need to buy the right setup the first time...Thanks in advance guys.

I got the M450 already, and I like the the Alpine 12" Type R (cost and output)... only thing is that is 500rms and the M450 is 400rms... so I'm thinking I'll have to get a M650 to replace it unless there's a way to set the system up without distortion/clipping... can you run a stronger speaker on a weaker amp safely by capping the speakers output??? I know I could just "keep the volume below a certain point" but that doesn't seem professional or safe.
I could use some more advice...

BTW thanks for the hand NAVY

you don't have to match the amp and sub so closely

that's good to hear, it'll save me some cash...i'll be ordering the Type R now then, hopefully have it installed within the month. In the meanwhile I have to figure out how to set my gain on the amp for my current setup so I got it down for the new sub.

Edit: any suggestions where to buy it from?
