actually there all ED's so stop being picky....

what does your vin number say
CRX's should be 3HMED8 or 3HMED9
civicis should be 1HGED6 or 1HGED7
the ED8 or ED6 or ED7 or ED9 is your chassis code.

in japan its EF because its a different chassis... so if were gonna be picky enough to say that calling a 2nd gen CRX a 4th gen CRX then we should be calling them by there proper chassis codes.

Mine sure as hell isn't a ED :finger:

Nor is the JDM series of second generation CRX from which all CRXs are derived anything but an EF.

Most people who have been on the 4G scene a while refer to them as EFs. Feel free to do the same :finger:  :finger:

I like being picky :D

hit me up on AIM. i will sort it out for ya. really you don't need to be concerned with this thread...i think setanta just wanted to make a thread :flipa:

there were 3 versions of the 4th gen civic and 2nd gen crx. all this talk of ef and so on doesn't mean anything. it won't matter the difference between a JDM, USDM, or even EDM crx because yours will be from the US...and that is that. you could find yourself one of the other versions that has been imported but, it will be priced extremely high. i'm sure at this point you just want a crx :)

:finger: and one to you too Kris :D

Nah, he was confused when I referred to them as 2nd gen CRXs on AIM - thought they were 4th gen as people here wern't helping his impression in the other thread :p

Fishcat - as I recollect, the JHMED stands for Japan Honda Motors and then the vehicle designation - where it was built - at least, that's what it is on our cars that come from Honda in Japan. I remember having that info in a workshop manual on my Nissan 240K-GT (in the 80's admittedly :p ).

This is what's in my manual:

JHM ED1 5 2 0 0 S 0 00001

JHM: Honda Motor Co.
ED1: Chassis code
5: transmission (3=M5 3d, 4=A 3d, 5=M5 4d, 6=A 4d)
2: "model" no.
0: fixed code
0: extra number
S: factory (S=suzuka)
0: model year (0=88 1=89 2=90)
00001: serial number

For USDM, JDM and EDM chassis codes check my site: http://www.civic4g.com/specs.htm

Hope this clears things up ;)

Cool Bracer - I couldn't remember the rest of it :)

What's really weird is that the SiR doesn't carry any of the designations, apparently it's applicable to overseas cars only.

Mine has EF9-100 and then a 4 digit serial number

and dont give me any crap about " its its ancestor, so its ok to be called a EF.... NO its not a EF its a ED, it is a DIFFERENT CHASSIS. if it were the same, it would have the same designation.

to call a CRX DX a EF is totaly off base, the DX is a far inferior car to a Si, and the Si is far inferior to the SIR of the homecountry,

Ok, so since stock my car came with a d15 it is coded as an ED3 but since the ZC is 1.6l can I call it an ED4?

PMT in a male? Never seen that before  :finger:

Keep crying though, someone might get sympathetic enough to pass you some tissues - maybe with some aloe vera sprinkled on it, just for your sensitive skin :frog:

Actually, the chassis is the same until you go firewall forward, and the only difference is the crossmember mounts and engine mounts. None of this crap about the EF having a longer nose, it doesn't! I measured mine against an Aussie GL - same distance.

People here call them EFs, even though only moppie and myself own an EF9 on thes forums. Quite frankly, I've seen pics of Si and DX Civics on this forum which are superior to my SiR and I'm in awe of the effort that they put into their cars.

A rose by any other name is still an EF - if you don't like it, go screw :p

The Japanese seem to have their own system of vehicle identification, when the imports arrive here, they get issued with a VIN number and a small plate gets riveted on in the engine bay, as well as the VIN being etched into the rear windshield.

The first few numbers of the Japanese number refers to the year period in which it was made. Mine is EF6-110 then the ID, the second digit '1' in my case refers to it being the second year of manufacture (october 88 - october 89) in the cycle, not sure on the rest.
With yours being '0' it would mean it was made between October 1989 and october 1990, as that is when EF9 production started..
