It is a fault in the EVAP purge valve solinoid circuit.

I had the same thing and it took 3 steps. #1 replace gas cap clear the code and go for a ride. Some say it may take up to 300 miles to reset, I don't know. Look under the truck by the fuel tank. Find the evap can and follow the black plastic line up between the cab and bed 13mm bolt, a 3" by 3" thin black plastic valve box and about $26.00 @ a gm dealer. Careful not to slide that black hose around. It makes hooking it up a bitch. Take it for a long ride again after you clear the codes. #3 Top front of engine is a purge valve. Pull it out and stick the new one in, $28.00 at GM same deal, go for a ride. I clear my codes by pulling the 2 pcm fuses. It worked for me. You could keep going back to autozone and they'll clear them. Good Luck

Nothing like bad advice!

P0449 is an ELECTRICAL code. This means an ELECRTICAL componant is not working. This means that some ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS must be done to determine if this is an INPUT, CONTROL MODULE, WIRING or COMPONANT fault prior to installing parts on the vehicle.

Well Merlin I read your thread and then read thru another book and decided to give it a shot myself and do it whole lot cheaper then letting a GM tech do it. It was very simple and worked well. $65.00 and a little time it works great. Now what would you have charged just to test it? I do admit you have some good advice most of the time but not all the time.
