I have what i think is a 4l60e with overdrive (pan is square and it has a whad of wires coming out the driver side of tranny)..
trany works great tell it gos to shift in to drive...
There is none it just acts like its in nuetral..
shifts thew 1st and 2nd fine but no drive....
I was told its may be a a electrical silinoid under the pan...
but i dont know whitch one of the three it is or if its a comond problem or something more serius....
the fluid is clean and smells fine (no burt smell) it dont slip and 4 wheel works great...
Does anyone know of this problem and how to fix or check to see what it is....:banghead:

You have the 4L60E tranny. I doubt this is a solenoid. There are 2 shift solenoids. If the B (or 2-3) shift solenoid was stuck, it would not shift into 3rd; however, it would not feel like neutral, it would stay in 2nd.
Most of the time that it slips (or feels like neutral), it is usually the 3/4 clutch pack or no fluid to the drive (3rd) circuit (i.e. no or low fluid pressure).
Using a trans capable scanner will tell you if the tranny shifted into 3rd or not. You don't say what the mileage is but it sounds like the 3/4 clutches to me.

Clutches require the tranny to be removed to replace the clutches. It may make sense to verify it is the 3/4 clutches using a trans capable scanner.
The cost to go with a 4L80E may not be worth it in the long run.
