Problems with Airbag Indicator Light

I bought a 1998 M3 2dr Convertable and on the way home from the dealership I hit a big bump and immediatly after the airbag indicator light came up on the dash. Is this a sensor malfunction? If so do I need to fix it pronto or is it just a screw up I can deal with.
