On the way to work...

Dispite the fact that I love my car and would like to drive it everywhere sometimes it's completly impracticle. I work on campus and it's just a block and a half away from my house. If I actually drive my car I wouldn't be able to find a parking space and get to class any faster then if I ride my bike. So thats what I do, actually it's faster to do so.

This morning on my way to work I get stopped by a security guard on a bike. In our huge campus courtyard there is no one but me and him. Apparently there is a campus speed limit for bikes! He issued me a written warning for riding my bike beyond walking speed. All I could do was smile. I thought that it was funny that he actually stopped me and giving me a warning. After we concluded our business I hopped back on and flew down some stairs. I'm shure thats aginst campus policy too!

Whats the point of riding my bike if I have to ride at walking speed. It completly defeats the purpose!

Oh and it gets better! I just read the warning. Here are some other things he could have nabbed me for. Riding on the grass, not having a bike permit, not parking my bike in a bike rack, and then theres this line that says other_________ So I guess he could have made anything up that he wanted. I do most of that other stuff all the time to. The campus is under major construction and most of the bike racks and sidewalks are blocked off by fencing.

I'm not venting I think this is funny. It was all I could do to not laugh when getting the warning, maby it was fear that he would fill in the "other" space. :grinyes: Maby next time I'll see if he can keep up as I fly down stairs, dart through parking lots, and jump over things.

Thats retarded. You should ask him if you get a ticket for running because that faster than walking. :uhoh:

Man I wish that I had thought of that! But I'm shure that running is compleatly legal. He did say that he usually lets bikers riding at jogging speed carry on. I really wasn't going that fast to begin with.

I'm guessing you were riding on the sidewalk??? If so, you shouldn't be riding that fast, they're meant for pedestrians and bikes going 20+ mph is dangerous. If you were riding in the street, then that's just plain stupid to get a ticket.

My racing mtb has 27 speeds(3x9), my road bike only has 18(2x9). In truth neither bike has that many 'speeds' as it's just a count of how many sprockets are in the gearset, of those about 1/3 are duplicate gear ratios and so really serve no purpose.

DUH! I'm not that stupid! Do you realize how hard you have to ride a mountain bike to maintain 20MPH! Theres not enough stright sidwalk on my campus to even think of getting up to that speed, expecially if there are students walking.

Anyone who was doing a light run could have eaisly kept up with me and I was going up hill.

it's understandable that they'd have that rule. it's probably to stop people like me who zip by at full speed. jk, i go full speed (usually passing cars that actually follow the 25-30kph speed limit) when i'm on the roads on campus, or if the sidewalks and stuff are empty but when there are people i have to slow down to weave through them. i still get to campus faster than a bus does (takes an hour and a half by bus, about an hour, maybe an hour and a quarter, by bike) but i usually take my car.

We have a bike path north of here, posted at every entrance that peds yield to bikes. This follows some pretty long hills, and its pretty easy to hit 40mph. A few years ago someone walking got hit by a bike, almost killed both of them. I can see why the keystone cop stopped you, but with no one around and if you are not doing it when anyone is around they should leave you alone and go after bigger problems. Or the cop was trying to make himself feel important.
