New Fuel Pump?

Hi guys. I will ask this question here as this forum gets a lot of traffic. I have a 1997 Bravada. As you guessed the gas gauge doesn't work and I need a new fuel sensor so that means getting a new fuel pump.

I saw a link on here somewhere about a year ago that had an OEM fuel pump for around $125. Does anyone know where that link is or of another one with similar priced fuel pumps? Thanks for any help.

You may be able to get just the pump for that price, but the whole assembly, including the level sensor, is well over $300.00 at any particular parts store.
I've used a Carter pump from Napa in the past ($328), and it took a dump after 13 months. I now have a Delphi unit in there (predecessor to ACDelco).

I did use a MasterCraft? (Advanced Auto Parts) unit on my daughter's Pontiac Sunfire- it's been in there about 16 months now). This would be your cheapest way to go, but as long as you're dropping the tank, go with the best unit available if possible. It's wortth the extra cost.

The Delphi pump (best bet) will set you back around $400.
Make sure you get the correct unit, the level sensors are different on a 2 door and 4 door truck.

rockauto or gmpartsdirect are two online places and no good pump is under $300 I believe. Some of the local auto stores can order Delco pumps so get the part # off the sites which list both Delco and GM #s.

You can get the sending unit from the dealer,cheaper than the fuel pump and the dealer needs the insurance slip for the vin.The dealer needs the vin to get the part.This is GM's way of ordering parts by the vin of the vehicle

If you want to get just the level sensor (about $100.00), it's a dealer only part.

If you do this at home, you're going to need a concrete floor, floor jack, good jackstands and fuel line disconnect tools. Compressed air is nice for cleaning the top of the fuel tank...locking ring & top of the fuel module before opening up the tank. Removing the spare tire will get you some access to the fuel filler & vent lines. Bunji cords holding up the fuel tank will support the tank but give you some working room while you disconnect the fuel supply & return lines and electrical connector (thanks Jim in Phoenix).
