I have a 96 GTP with the 3.4 and it has 110100 miles on it
I have had this code P1361( Ignition Control Circuit Not Toggling) for the past 2 months and it is starting to tick me off with the low speed driveability and vehicle surging going down the road and it wants to stall and sometimes it actually does when i touch the gas in reverse while i am backing up. I checked everything the book says to check the module is good the coils are good there are no shorts or open circuits and everything else ohmed out O.K. including both crank sensors and all the wiring to and from all of these components. I have used the wonderful search feature was wondering, after using the search feature at the top of the page it seems that many others have had problems with this code and it seems that nobody has found a cure for it yet. Could i have found it? In my chilton shop edition manual it says that "If the codes P0325, P1361, P1350, or P1623 occurs, or if the MIL(Service Engine Soon) is on constantly with no DTC's present, the PROM or KS module is not fully seated or is defective. Does this sound possible? Anybody have any input or personal experience with this code? Thank you for the repies in advance!!!!

Most people will not touch this particular DTC with a 10 foot pole. Reason is the circuit is complex and members that had a similar issue in any odb-ii model Grand Prix regardless of engine size could never fix the problem or if fixed a bunch of parts were replaced along with the parts cost.
Basically DTC P1361 means you have a problem in the ignition control circuit bypass and IC modes. It is not toggling at the proper time when certain parameters are met. The ignition control module (ICM) sends signals that the PCM module requires for fuel control and spark advance calculations. At crank when first starting the engine, the ICM controls spark advance (by-pass mode). When the second 3X crank position sensor signal is recognized by the PCM, it applies 5 volts to the by-pass circuits commanding the ICM to switch ignition control of spark advance to PCM (IC mode).
In order to set P1361 there is a short in the IC circuit or an open or short to ground in the by-pass circuit. The PCM is sensing IC pulses during crank while by-pass mode spark advance is commanded which is incorrect.
Component possibilities are the ICM or PCM modules. Other possibilities would be wiring between the PCM and ICM modules to include the respective electrical connectors. If the modules don't resolve the issue then the wiring should be checked with a multimeter. Ohmed out point to point and to ground. Good luck!

I agree Bob. Trying to help with that code on here is virtually impossible. Since his car has the two crank position sensors, I'd start with those and their associated wiring, but the list is long of where to go next.
