Golf Questions

I'm looking into getting a Golf within the next month. I was really confused with all the models engines etc. vw has offered but now I've got a little bit better understanding. At first, I reall wanted an r32. After seeing how much/rare they are, I'm not sure I can afford one. Basically I want the fastest stock Golf possible. I've come to the conclusion that the 2.8L is enough, but how do I tell if it's 12v or 24v? Obviously I'm wanting to go for the 24v. Also something I'm confused about, what's the deal with the drive of these cars, some rear wheel, some front, r32 all wheel? If someone could clear this up for me it owuld be greatly appreciated, thanks!

the vr6 is a good engine with power. THe 1.8t can be purchased for less and you can mod it to have more power than a vr6 to equal the price of a vr6.
the 2.8l 24v vr6 has 200hp and is fwd
the 2.8l 12v vr6 has 180hp and is fwd
THe r32 is a 3.2L 24V vr6 with 230hp and is 4wd
the 2.8l 24v vr6 has 200hp and is fwd
the 2.8l 12v vr6 has 180hp and is fwd
THe r32 is a 3.2L 24V vr6 with 230hp and is 4wd

Right, but aren't all mark 4's 24v? And how much modification are we talking about to get the 1.8 past the 2.8? Wouldn't it be easier to just start with the 2.8?

99.5-01 vr6 are 12V and 02-04 are 24v (only a 1.8t was offered in 05).
The 99.5-01 1.8t have 150hp the 02-05 have 180hp.
A chip,intake,exhaust on a 12v vr6 will give maybe 190whp
A chip, intake, exhaust on a 1.8t will give 200whp
A chip, intake,exhaust on a 24v vr6 will give 210whp
VR6 gti's go for usually about 1500-2000 more than a 1.8t and you can get a chip,intake,exhaust on a 1.8t for under 1000.00

Does the "T" in 1.8t stand for turbo? Which ones are turbo'd? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a grip. Thanks!
