1989 Snap, Crackle, Pop Radio

I am working on Garndma's Riv, and the radio pops and crackles loudly. Can barely hear stations. Replaced speakers, they were OK. I heard that the radios fizzle after many years of service, so I took what I thought was the radio out of the console. Now that I see it, I am not sure if I got the amp, and not radio. The GM part number is 16072780. Is this an amp, or amp + radio? If it is amp only, should I get this repaired, or should I find the radio and send both for repair?
Thanks for any insight or guidance you may provide.
fyi - this has the CRT command center.

hey, i know this answer is way past anything meaningful but I had issues with my radio in my '89 Riviera. I removed the radio module (which is located in the center console near the shifter) and brought it in. Turns out that the capacitors were going and leaking. Replacing all the caps fixed the issue and have had no other issues. If you ever get this i hope it helps.

IT IS NEITHER OR BOTH!!!: IT IS A RADIO RECEIVER. You must go to the nearest junkyard and get a replacement based on that part number!!. By the way ask for a radio receiver for a small GMC/CHEVY pickup truck, that is the exact same part number that you have right now! I should know I got a 1989 Reatta/Buick that has that same part number and I got it from a small pickup truck radio receiver that has the same part number and boy does it fit like a glove and works without trouble!! Go see for yourself! Have a nice day.

YOU KNOW WHAT??
YOU NEED TO GO TO THE LOCAL JUNKYARD,ASAP.
ASK FOR A SMALL GMC/CHEVY PICKUP TRUCK RADIO RECEIVER!!
The same one that is in those models years as your car is in those trucks!!
This will serve as a replacement, at a small cost to you!
I have a 1989 Reatta only a factory replacement will work for a radio receiver. After some leg work pounding concrtete, I was told by some country bumpkin that the same radio in my car part number 16072780; comes out of the same model year Chevy/GMC small truck!! At first I was shocked to believe it. Then I went to the local junkyard and asked for a small pickup truck by chevy/gmc and loo and behold: I had the same part number and design as the receiver that came pout of my car!! It works like a charm at $50 only and $90 to put in by the car dealer!! Go try it yourself, and see what hapens! Good luck and have a nice day.
