2000 Venture Intermittent High Idle Speed

I have a 2000 Chevy Venture van that has recently started idling at high speeds after being started. It will run for a few seconds at normal RPM then jump to a fairly high RPM. While driving, it will hold a speed of 45 MPH because of the engine speed. Idle Air Bypass Valve? Where is this located if suspected?

- No codes during self diagnostic test

Any advice is appreciated!

This problem is intermittent. Some days this car runs great, other days the idle jumps up and the car has to be turned off then restarted to solve the issue.

Any helpful advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I had something very similar yesterday. I was driving with my foot on the brake most of the way... I thought it might be the accerelator cable sticking. I've sprayed it with lubricant. Hopefully it will help?

I have the same problem. If I shut the van off and restart it, it fixes itself. I replaced the throttle sensor and that fixes it temporarily. After burning out 4 of them, i had someone else look at it. They tell me its a computer issue.

Ouch. I'm still ok after a few days. (I hope I get home OK now ;-) How intermittent is this? Every second day or once a week/month?

It used to do it almost every time i drove it. (bought this piece of **** back in October). the last time sensor was replaced was back in January. It would happen here and there. Sometimes the SES would come on sometimes not. Then in February I replaced the IMG. It has only happened about 5-10 since then. So I dunno if that has anything to do with it or not. I could care less anymore. When it does it, I throw it in neutral and restart it! If thats the least of the problems I have with it then I consider myself lucky because I have had nothing but problems with this van. Counting down til I can trade it in!! Good luck!

My dad's '98 Venture did this for a while. The code came up for throttle position sensor. We never did anything to it, and it went away. Weird, I know. We don't get a code or it anymore, either.

I have the same problem with a 98 Venture.
Goes away sometimes by shutting off and restarting as well.
Been getting quite annoying.

I've been OK since I lubricated the accelerator cable. That was a few weeks ago. Have you tried that?

I have not lub'ed the cable... where would I do that? right at the pedal?

there is a critter above throttle sensor i think it is iac but mine has done same as you describe code will come up throttle sensor but you can take iac out and clean it and carefully clean the bore out do not scrape either the bore or iac just wipe it off and wipe out bore it gets gummed up and affects the idle some how try this and see if it straightens out good luck
