dual exhaust mileage

i have a 95 chevy 1500 with a 4.3 vortec and factory exhaust. i was wondering how much a typical dual exhaust setup would help in terms of mileage. if i were to actually put duals, i would try to make it still sortof quiet, since my other truck will be the loud one. also, how do you sort out the computer that undoubtedly gets f'ed up readings from the oxygen sensors and whatnot, since they will be in different places and there wont be a catalytic converter anymore///

I have a 94 1500 shortbed with the 4.3 and I had duals put on after the Y pipe with no catalytic converter and a single cherry bomb on each dual. I only get about 3 miles per gallon better and it sounds very mellow in tone idling and running at highway speeds.

the mpg gain is negligible.
don't put on duals to get better mileage, put 'em on to reduce restriction and make it sound better.

well, it's capable of about 15 or perhaps 16 in the city right now, and if i got another 2 or 3, that would be somewhere from 17 to 19 mpg, which would probably pay for the duals pretty quickly. i just dont know what to do about oxygen sensors and whatnot

the people who install it should weld a place in to put the o2 sensor. before the cat. just tell them you still wanna pass emissions, they'll put it in.

if its a 95 then it is obd1. You can remove the cat without the computer even knowing about it because it is a pre cat sensor. I know that here in Nebraska there are no emissions laws yet but it is illegal for a shop to remove a cat.

another thing no one talked about was a set of headers with the o2 setup already there, you would increase your mileage by changing the headers to allow for better breathing where its really going to count, the stock headers are where you get all your flow restriction, get you a good set of headers with the o2 set up and all you do is screw in your o2 sensors and plug them in and your read to roll, you can go to summitracing.com and find them there, theres several different brands to chose from, just depends on your pockets, i hope this was helpful for you............:grinyes:

well, i suppose when i get my restoration project done i might pour a little cash into this other truck. i dont really need to care about emissions since i live in omaha nebraska where they dont even second-guess that kind of stuff. it only gets about 15 in the city even with the 6 banger and stick, which is a little dissapointing. old cabureted 350's with about 100 more ponies probably were cabable of pulling down that kind of mileage.
