tranny question

ok ive posted a couple of threads and i have to apologize cuz i didnt just put it all on one so here we go. My 1 question now is Can i put my flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and tranny off my 91 d15b1 onto my 89 d15b2???? i have an 89 five speed i think on there now and my new clutch and pressure plate i bought dont line up on the flywheel...so i wanna know if i can change the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate and still pu that 5spd back on or would i have to put the 4spd on it...I really need someones help cuz i cant get to work without this car...ssoooooo please help soon!!!

losted.....it all should line up...only thing would play a roll is if it was an 88 i would think....but thats only the splines...sure you got the right parts???

alright but what are splines??i keep hearing this

the splines are on the transmission input shaft. if you look at your clutch assembly when its mounted on the flywheel, look in the hole in the middle of the clutch....the hole in the middle is where your transmission connects to your engine via the flywheel...the 'splines' are little grooves notched into the transmission shaft, and the center of your flywheel...if the splines weren't there the transmission shaft would just spin inside your flywheel and the car wouldn't go anywhere. Like these guys are saying, the 88crx had a different amount of splines than the later models, so when you try to stick the transmission shaft into your flywheel, the splines won't match up, therefore the transmission will not mount up on the flywheel. It would be like trying to open a door with the wrong key, cause the key wouldn't fit in the hole. With all that said you might wanna figure out what you really have there...do some research on how to determine what year of parts you have cause if your dealing with 89-91 parts they should line up..maybe you were mistakely given the wrong clutch
