As mentioned in an earlier post, the European Grand Prix will race in Valencia, Spain, starting next season. The deal, which was finalized today - and the Associated Press reports that it is worth $35 million to Formula 1 per season for seven years -, was dependent on the same local political party being re-elected to run the government. That happened on 27 May. It is the second race in Spain, after the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. Only around five years ago few people watched F1 in Spain. Today, thanks to Fernando Alonso, F1 is one of the country’s most popular sports.
What’s really cool, is that the Valencia race will happen through the streets of the city, around the port area, like the Monaco Grand Prix. I’m already looking forward to it.
