is smoke a common problem w/high miles?

i am not sure if my 91 has 180000 or 280000 but when i stat off from a dead stop or when i get on it i burn oil about a quart for every fill tank

From my observations, a TC should not be burning oil at 180k if it has been well taken care of. At 280k I have no idea, really, but it would not surprise me if it did, neither would it surprise me if it didn't.

My '95 with 166k does not burn a drop and I know of numerous others, both pre and post '95, with the same approximate mileage and up to 200k, that don't burn oil.

I don't know, but I've heard that even though this large, well mannered engine, has a lot of horse power, that, even with good servicing, will begin to break down early. "They" say that a lead foot is very hard on this engine.

BTW, it is common knowledge that the tranny must be serviced regularly or it will likely fail early. Some say every 30k the oil and filter must be changed. It's easy to do it your self and, IMHO is well worth it.

Yeah the engine in your car is known for crappy valve seals. With your having high miles, I would just use some lucas motor oil treatment instead on replacing the seals.

Do the "crappy valve seals" extend to the '95 year model?

I use Lucas Diesel Treatment in my Dodge Cummins pickup faithfully but am not familiar with their Motor Oil Treatment. If I begin using it now will it PREVENT "crappy valve seal" deterioration? If so, how often does it need to be used? Every oil change?

I arree with reekor try some valve sealer stuff. One thing I can pass on, is to not let that oil get to low or you will sieze the engine. You will spin those two rear bearrings quick. Thats when I usually come get those old cars to part out. You must have the non digital dash cluster to not know the exact mileage? Good luck and Let us know if the valve sealer works out.

Change the valve seats its not hard .But you will need a air conpressor and a adapter for your spark plug hole to hold the valves up when you change them. Autozone will loan you the tool to take off the valve spring.Probley a 4 hour job to do them all.
But first I would do a conpresion check to see if its the valves or the rings. If its the rings Dump it.

Have you ever tore an engine down that some one used LUCAS in you will need a putty knife to get the crap off the inside. Pooo on Lucas fix it right. It will plug up oil passages. Only use if you want to dump the car on a dealer.

I have been using it for about 8 years with no issues and have it in 5 cars. In fact I did have the heads off a car that i had been using it in for 5 years, didnt see any not normal.
