Murphy Strikes Again!:banghead:
We were going along just fine, and then....
Sunroof won't close...no motor sound. Fuse is ok,
All the power windows work, etc, (manual says they are on the same fuse, I really want to trust that) but the sunroof..nada, nyet, no power to the switch, no motor whirring sound at all.
Next in line is finding out where the relay is located. Why they make it so difficult for consumers to find the info, who can do easy R & Rs of parts ..is beyond me. They jam them all over the place, it's like a treasure hunt, but not nearly as entertaining.
The repair manuals I have are not cutting it. Even the Chilton's doesn't show the info I need, a 47 dollar waste of ching.
I think the sunroof relay might be in the glovebox, but I try not to assume...lol
Theres at least 4 relays in there...
Did I mention it is raining like a sunofabiscuit right now from TS Barry?...
Hubby put a tarp (or a garbage bag) over the truck roof, looks real nice, but can't drive it in the rain like this.
I know the aftermarket relay costs about 15 clams or so, OEM part # is 12065125, and AC Delco makes the replacement part # DKD1703A, but for the OEM is what I would go for. I've been burned once before on aftermarket replacement parts...and have read enough here to know better, :shakehead lol Penny wise, pound foolish...
If it's not the relay, then we're in trouble...:-(
Any words of wisdom from y'all would be much appreciated.

:grinyes:
Sunroof Relay OEM part # is 12065125, and AC Delco makes the replacement part # DKD1703A aka D1703A
I went to the local parts store, he said the numbers looked good, but he could not find them at all in his system, AutoZone said the part was NLA (No Longer Available), they checked all IPLs (Illustrated Parts Lists) for Blazer, Sonoma, Bravada, S10, etc...nada
That was a waste of time.:screwy:
I went to the local Olds Dealer, the part numba was correct. He had it in stock, 22 bucks...SOLD!. Then we asked if the relay was in the glovebox, he said he thought it was....but pressured him to take a minute to look at a diagram, as they should have it...and lo
The relay is not located in the glovebox, it is located in the headliner, and connects to the sunroof motor wiring harness..yay!
So will keep ya posted on how things go. Fortunately, Hubby worked for GM in Tarrytown for 17 years before they closed the plant...he was in hard trim and as a repairman for under dash and windows, so he isn't scared to disassemble if we can't get to the harness easily.
If anyone is interested in a schematic on the sunroof, lemme know, I will send you a copy. The relay on the schematic is # 17.

My worst nightmare for a sunroof is it not closing. Did you check with a voltmeter at the motor connections to see if it has power? If in fact it doesnt have power as that point, check and make sure the switch has power going to it. If it does, your problem lies between those two points, and in this case the relay could be the problem. Either way, let us know what happens.

OK, This is getting weird.
Took Joe about 10 minutes to get the headliner down, here's how a factory trained repair man does it...
Removed the sunroof switchplate (has 1 screw and 2 pushclips), driver's side visor (has torx screws, unplug the vanity light), windlace (push on molding) for the interior of the sunroof (pull one side where it is split and pull it around, it has a groove in it for reinstall), and the hockey stick the driver's side (must open driver's door to remove, this is all pushclips)
This allowed Joe enough room to pull the headliner down about 5-6 inches so he could peek inside with a flashlight to look for the relay...frappin Murphy....
The relay we bought does not exist in the harness where the diagram says it should be. WTF?:screwy:
Instead, there is a 6" long by approx. 2 " wide Doodey Bopper...lol a Circuit Board Module of some sort with a plug on either end (there are 2 different types of connections).
Upon opening the case, we can see (and clearly smell) where the circuit board is burnt, and I mean cooked.
Called back the GM Parts Man , Bob to advise and to give him all the numbers that are clearly marked on the white GM Parts Sticker (including the barcode) on the outside case of this circuit board module.
Lots of numbers on it.... reads like this....
GM GMT 330
1W96-D-2100A-A
(Barcode here)
WD92481327A
Bob says he doesn't know what the hell it is, it should be just the relay, not a board of some sort...we will hafta waste the gas and drive back over there so maybe we can all learn what it is, as hubby is perplexed as well...watch this be a $ 300 part :banghead:

Mystery part solved and identified..Bob made a few phone calls...when I get the part numba from the package, I will share it here, so others don't go thru this:smokin: I have no idea how to post the pic of this part, or I would have already, sorry..
Anywho..
The part is called an Express Open Module
He had to order it...cost before tax 148 clameroos :frown:
Since none of us had any idea that the schematic was incomplete, including the dealer, they are going to refund the money for the wrong relay we bought, which will go right back to them towards the module..I was stressing that as we all know they usually do not do returns on any electrical items..:nono:
PLEASE NOTE!!!! This Express Open Module is supposedly just for the sunroofs that have a rocker switch that is like a 2-way...opens the sunroof fully or just tilts it partially,
So...
In the center position, it is off
Push switch backward it opens the sunroof and visor
Push switch forward it closes the sunroof, if you go past close, it opens the sunroof to an upward tilt in the back.
We get the module Thursday, keeping fimmers crossed 'til then...:uhoh:
